Reagan hardly had shit to go with Afghanistan and ultimately they did achieve their goal of driving the Soviets out, so yeah it was a success.

and before you even say it because I know how misinformed most people are on the subject. NO the CIA didn't train Al Qaeda, nor did they create the Taliban. In fact the Taliban wasn't even formed until the mid 90s. They were a splinter of the forces the ISI helped support and supply. When the US and Pakistan pulled out most of the resources after the Soviet withdraw, the rebel forces started fighting with one another, some of which became the Taliban, others the Northern Alliance (which later aided US forces), and still others split off in the southern regions of the country. Osama wasn't even a major factor in the Afghan/Soviet conflict and Al Qaeda wasn't a factor until AFTER the withdraw.
