I need an inexpensive mountain bike and performance bikes has some great deals right now but i was wondering about the Otero. Firstly, Ive been riding a 10 year old basic Giant with no suspension. I tried to take it on some pretty simple trials and it wasnt happening with no suspension. Now someone stole that thing and its given me an excuse to get my new bike, one that i can take off road. Im looking at the Mongoose Otero. I think there are 3 levels? The basic otero they have in store for 570. They also have the elite online for 799 plus 20% off. They have the same 20% off for the super and its 999 before the discount. Ive read the specs and it just looks like the higher you go, the better components you get, but the frame and wheels are the same. So is it worth it to spend 200-300 more for the elite or the super? Any input is appreciated.

The Super is the better of all of them given the Rock Shox component group with sram derailleurs and shifters. Yes the wheels are the same and that is the FIRST thing you should upgrade on any bike you get. Dont think you are going to buy any of the ones you selected and start doing DH or FR with them, they can take a little but not that much. None of these have the Mongoose Free Drive active suspension on them so they are entirely for AM and that is it ....NO 4' drops all the time the wheels wont take it and continuous curb jumping will be the end of those wheels. The elite and the Otero both have suntour components with Sram /shimano mix and I wouldnt choose Suntour over Sram so its your money but if you are going to do it then I highly suggest you go with the Sram so you get the best bike the FIRST time!
Edit: for that matter if you really want a much better bike and want 10% off (not 20%) then go with this one: http://www.performancebike.com/bikes/Product_10052_10551_1027078_-1_400308_400001_400326 !!!!! Why would you even consider the Otero ....its junk compared to all the others and even though a shop quality bike it isnt a good one!
