Mountain Bike Suggestion?

I used to mountain bike about 15 years ago and got out of the sport. Now I'm older and fatter, but think it's time to get back in shape and start riding again. It seems like there's a lot more manufactures out there now, so I really don't know who is making quality products anymore. Could anyone suggest a good bike in the $300-$500 dollar range. My only real criteria is that the bike is a hard tail and has disk brakes. Thanks for the help.

A good shop quality mountain bike will be closer to $500 and up. Google bike shops + your zip code to find the shops in your area. You you want to ride on the road and local bike paths you may want to get a hybrid instead. There is nothing wrong with V brakes, they provide more then adequate braking power, cheaper, and easier to maintain. If you know what size frame you need and can assemble and tune a bike Forge makes the Sawback 5XX with great components for $380.
