'Moulin Rouge' - Love this film!

While visually interesting, I felt nothing. It was cold and lifeless.
At least Chicago had some funny bits and dark f***ed up bits. Mostly moulin was tacky.

This is the only part I can agree with. The Duke is not romantic, he is materialistic and Satine was nothing more than a possession to him. He made Sidler sign over the deeRAB to the Moulin Rouge to ensure that Satine would be kept for him alone. In his own worRAB "it's not that I'm jealous, it's just that I don't like other people touching my things". He was only ever interested in owning Satine, not having a proper relationship with her. Romantics don't refer to the people they love as "things". The promise of making her a star was just so that she'd know that she owed him, not because he has any real interest in the theatre.

No, I'm sorry but we can't. Christian is far more noble than the Duke. If he had been overwhelmed by her physical beauty and only wanted to shag her, he could have done so when Satine was pratically throwing herself at him in the elephant. From the beginning he saw something special in Satine and he was the only one to ever treat her as a real person. Sidler didn't think twice about whoring her out to the Duke and the rest of the cast were more than happy to go along with it as long as they got to be in the show. Even Marie didn't tell her when the doctor told them she was dying as "the show must go on". Satine felt like she had to do these things as her whole life Sidler made her feel like she was only worth how much she could sell her body for.

Christian make her feel like a worth while person and was more than willing to give up everything just to be with her. He never put a price tag on his love for her. He taught her self respect and she found her self esteem. As she said to Sidler "Christian loves me for me". Most importantly of all, he taught her that she was worth loving for who she was, not what she could provide for people "the greatest gift you'll ever learn, is just to love and be loved in return". He taught her to love and be loved, something the Duke would never have been able to do.

Sure Christian had flaws but I would defo chose him over the Duke any day.
