...any way around this some handed me a phone and its locked.... i need to find a way around it

Fully flash it with verizon firmware or cricket firmware and it will be unlocked for you.

If it's VZW dial *228 send... it should still connect even though locked ... then opt 1 after it's done programming the lock code should be the last four digits of the phone nuraber

if you can get it to program (either via OTASP or manual programming) it will reset the lock code to the last 4 of the phone nuraber. if not, then you can use either RSD, PST, or P2Kseem to find and or reset the lock code.
