Motorola Q or UTStarcom 6700?

I have the UT device now, poor reception. Motorola is notorious for better reception. Are the devices equal? If not, does someone mind pointing out the differences (other than size and price)? Thanks in advance...

Motorola q is a nice phone, but read my other post on how the repair people with telus have recieved every q back with software issues.

Wait a while, try and ask your dealer (the repairs department) which phone is best, considering they are the ones FIXING every garbage phone.

Try that, thats what im doing for my next phone.

Moto Q has had a few glitches. But Telus is fixing up a firmware update as we speak. What it boils down to is the need. What side of the phone do you need to most? Moto has better phone (voice signal dialing, better RF I have found, MUCH smaller, and real buttons for dialing). UT has Wifi and PPC with touch screen and larger qwerty keyboard. You can get advanced voice dialing through a third party app and can not be triggered from a BT headset, push and holding the start button.

Personally I love the Q. I don't have Wifi, and have so much cool things going that I wouldn't trade it for the world at this point. It does freeze occasionally, but minor inconvenience. Usually happens with unsigned thrid party apps glitch. a quick poer cycle and good to go. Great MP3 player with stereo speakers, BT stereo headphones, or using conventional wired. Screen is amazing. I have a Divx player running and it's clear and smooth video. Boils down to great at multimedia.

6700 is better with productivity. Pocket office for one, something the Q does not have and no apps yet exist to get it. You can view on the Q, but not edit.

So chose on your priorities. My advice.

Oh on the repair thing, yah have had a few. All software related. Hardware is good.

I recently chose the 6700 over the Q for a few reasons:

1) Touchscreen
2) Full QWERTY keyboard
3) Wi-Fi (not 100% necessary if you have a good highspeed, all you can eat data plan)
4) Screen size

Honestly, I've never used the Q, but I do have to say I like the 6700 from a productivity standpoint. I also get very decent reception, however the voice quality leaves a little to be desired. In any event, I just don't really like the Q's form factor, and lack of a touchscreen.

To each his own. For productivity, your right. The one other thing that drove me nuts while I played with the 6700. Dialing on a touch screen. I have to have the tactile feel of the buttons. Especially with the amount of calls I make to automated lines, it makes punching in codes and the like.

I'll just boil it down to thankfully we have choices right?

Yeah, I'll give you that, dialing with the touchscreen is a bit of a pain. One thing I didn't mention is Verizon has a software update for their 6700 which allows voice dialing without having to get a third party app, and thankfully fixed the "no wi-fi and phone at the same time bug" which was just down right stupid.

Choices are great, and just think, we don't have half of what is available over in Europe or Asia!

I just ordered my 6700 today. I don't have it yet, but should in a few days? Will this unit ship with the new firmware version (allowing voice dialing) or will i need to bring it to the store to update it?

More than likely with the old firmware - my device is only 1 month old and it came with the old firmware. I'd suggest updating it right away, as it requires a complete format.

How would I go upon updating it? Do I take it into Verizon's store, or do I just download something online? If it's the latter, would you mind providing me with a link?

No, you can update it yourself:

Go to the bottom of the page, click on "XV6700 Windows Mobile? 5.0 Software Update " - Download it to your PC. Just have your phone and PC syncing and run the program, it will do the rest.
