Motorola PEBL U6 vs. Samsung SGH T809

I think I've narrowed it down to 2 phone choices (I'll be using T Mobile)

I'm considering the Moto PEBL and Samsung T809. Any opinions on which is better and why? (or which are strengths of one phone more than the other)

Reception and style are both key (at least I admit it) I don't use a ton of advanced features. A good camera would be great but bluetooth etc. isn't part of my world. Thanks!

If you are ONLY looking for style, then I'd go for the pebl. Its not as widely available as the T809 is.

For any other reason, I'd choose the T809. Feature wise, the T809 beats the crap out of the pebl

would you say reception is about the same for both?

reception is hugely important to me. right now i have a samsung X426 with cingular and i've been counting the days until my contract is up. i hate that phone! (i was going to rule out all samsung phones in the future but have been told that would be a mistake)

i want great reception
i'd like the phone to be reliable without tons of "glitches" and
i want to like the look of the phone
i'd like a decent camera
loud ringtones would be nice (i never hear my current phone ring)

nothing too complicated on my list

Reception on the T809 is good, but I don't know if its better than the pebl.

The T809 is pretty stable, I've heard people say its restarted on them once or twice since they've bought it, but I've never had this problem. The nice thing about the pebl, is that its easily flashable and you can edit seems and what not. That way customed firmware can be created and problems fixed pretty easily (though this may be hard right now since the phone is pretty new).

The T809 has a better camera (they are both CMOS cameras, pebl is .3mp T809 is 1.3mp). Neither has autofocus so you can't really expect superior shots from either.

T809 has ascending ringtones standard, meaning they start off low and then get loud. On top of that, it doesn't ring and vibe at the same time, definately one of the bigger drawbacks of the phone. Once the ringers get all the way up, they are loud though.

From what you've posted, I'd go for the pebl unless the camera is really important to you (the video on the T809 is impressive).

thanks for the help! i only want / expect the camera to be decent and not totally suck (so much for technical jargon ) i have a digital camera but now lately i am seeing the benefit to a camera phone since i always have my phone with me...but usually not the camera. i just want the camera to be acceptable - nothing spectacular expected.

i appreciate the input

I'd stay away from both. The PEBL only has a VGA camera. If you want a decent camera get at least 1 Megapixel. The T809 has poor RF performance in the 800 MHz band. Buy an unlocked tri or quad band GSM phone off HoFo or the internet and it will work on T-Mobile.

1. I don't think the T809 is poor with 850, seems just fine to me.

2. With Tmobile, he won't be getting much use out of 850 unless he's roaming

3. I wouldn't say stay away from the pebl simple because its camera is vga, that's why I asked him how important the camera was. If he's looking to take random snapshots here and there, the vga camera may do him fine, but if he's looking to possibly print or show off the photos, then he needs to go with a phone with a better camera.
