Motorola i335..what cord, and what software program is necessary to download

ringtones pictures etc. into your? i plugged in a cable that fit the phone (the cord was actually included in my ipod when i bought it, but it fit the phone so i tried it) i thought that when i would plug the cable into the phone and then into my computer it would come up as a removable device or something....but it did not...i am trying to get the phone connected to my computer so that i can transfer stuff onto the phone as well as off the phone...what am i doing wrong? HELP someone
