motorola dcx 3400 problems, pls help?

i got my dcx 3400 in south america, colombia to be presice, dont realy have problems with it when i bought it in colombia coz i got it from telemex satelite company, now i am back in the uk and it doesnt want to play my channels through my cable connection, do i have to put new software in or is it the m-card, what is the m-card used for can someone pls help, coz i didnt have any problems with this dvr hd box, coz to me its realy good gadged to me. pls can u help me thanks
