Motorized Bike Transportation in Massachusetts?

Now..I've been reading a bit about laws on scooters, mopeds, etc. You need a learners permit, in massachusetts, to use something like a Moped, along with insurance and registration...heres the thing. For someone who needs to be a year older for a permit, are there any types or transportation that you don't need a permit or registration/insurance to ride? Something like a bike, but, obviously, motorized?
