Motorcycle mechanic life?

I've done it for quite a while.(almost 40yrs) and now teach it to others.
It can be great fun but sometimes very frustrating when things go wrong.
You need patience above everything else if your going to work on bikes.
It is, after all, a service industry (just like waiting tables, only without the tips)
Its possible to make money but usually you do it because you just love working on bikes.
If you don't care too much about other people you can make a lot of cash by cutting corners but that usually leads to customers getting hurt or you loosing your reputation
If you just want to ride a bunch of different peoples bikes, your better off waiting for road test days.
 
Horrible pay, long hours, mean customers, crappy bosses.
It's not a bad job to have if you're really into it, but you get paid precisely crap unless you have your own shop. Median income is around $11/hr almost no matter where you live (you'll probably make $7-$8/hr starting out, even if you were to graduate from MMI or something like that) and you're lucky if ever get near $20/hr, so don't plan on moving out of your parent's house for a very long time or plan on having a family or a life.

I hate to paint a bad picture of it, but that's exactly what you are looking at. Good luck!
