moto 815 or V3c...I know I know..check the threads

First of all let me say I know that this has been discussed in many threads...but usually someone just saying that one camera is better than the other....is there anyone who can actually point to real life comparisons and say the screen is better on one or the reception is better on the other etc?

I bought an 815 two weeks ago (Bell/Aliant in Canada) primarily because the Razr was not yet available and I really liked the flash card flexability.

However...on Friday of last week....8 days after I bought my 815 they introduced the razr locally. $20.00 more than the 815. I have not been happy with the 815 mp3 files (having to rename them...and still some mp3s just don't show up on my card.?......I have noticed that they are usually songs that I have ripped from CDs usuing I TUnes....anyway...its a pain having to ajust song titles to show up).....so now I have two brand new 815 cases...a 256 meg and 512 meg trans flash cards and readers......and I am wondering if I should return the phone for the razr?

I have heard that the razr does and does not have an mp3 player? How many pics can you put on the 40 meg (or is it 30 meg) razr? How easy is it to transfer info back and forth.

Some give me the real goods..lol

I suspect I Tunes is creating your MP3's with some sort of DRM preventing them from playing on "non Ipod" MP3 players. I use EAC with the lame MP3 encoder to rip my CDs and have had no problems playing them on the E815. I like that the ID3V1 tags are displayed - Title and artist.

A coworker has the RAZR V3C and my take is they have the same size screens, and about the same reception. Maybe the E815 gets another bar now and then.

RAZR is thiner and a little bit lighter, but no expansion slot or external antenna.
E815 is thicker, has an expansion slot, speaker phone is louder, keypad feels much better to me as well.

MP3's don't support DRM.

The reason is probably a filename character limit. Instead of having iTunes name the files Artist - Album - Track - Title or something like that, just do Artist - Title or just Track - Title and put them in folders.

I don't think it is ITUNES.....some somes play (they are the ones that show time and album data before I move them over to the phone). Still it is quirky and a pain to worry about titles.

I do find the phone (the 815) to be excellent in most respects I finally retired my V60c which served me well for almost 5 years. The point about the speaker phone on the V3c is the kind of real info that I am looking for. I am really really impressed by the speaker phone on the 815 and use it all the time for work.

Can anyone say anything definitive on the screens on the two phones or reception...I assume in tricky arreas the 815 with extendable antenna would do better? How many pics could you fit on a v3c before your 30 megs are full? How much of pain is it to move data from v3c to a pc. With the 815 and the flash card its pretty painless. Not sure if my obex is handcuffed or not....don't have bluetooth yet on my laptop..going to pick up a dongle.

I have lusted after a razr since the first gsm phones came out...but my local cdma carrier usually runs about a year behind....now that it is here I am of mixed emotions....I do like the flash card expandability on the 815......bye the time the v3i get here.....there will be something even better out....story of my life. Anyway..if I am going to take this phone back and trade it for a v3c I have about two weeks to do it...so I can't take forever.

Thanks for any help guys.

Both the V3c and E815 screens are bright and crisp, very easy to read. I'd say they are identical as far as I can tell. If your in a tricky area, yes the antenna on the E815 does help. I imagine the MP3 file names are the issue. I've read that they should not exceed 32 characters (including the .mp3), or have anything numbers and letters. I use underscores and spaces without problems on my E815.

Pics at 1.3MP resolution take about ~250 to 320KB each. So you could save about 300 pics. BUT, the phone needs about ~5MB free to use VCAST and a bit less to use WAP (mobile web). That may matter to you, or not.

From what I've read, the V3c has OBEX enabled, so you can transfer files via bluetooth link showing XP linking to V3c The Verizon E815 requires a seem edit, but I imagine Bell has not disabled OBEX. I've edited my E815 and OBEX is very nice, drag and drop.

thanks for the responses.....I have been using my 815 to play Daily Source Code podcasts ....and it works quite slick.....I stopped in at my dealer today to look at the V3c again and I am starting to think that the 815 is better for my uses. My 815 came with earphones and mic for hands free talking....which is great for listening to mp3s....on the v3c that is an extra that you have to buy.

Also the 815 is really easy to move pics and mp3s back and forth to my pc...the salesman tells me with the v3c I have to pay to email them to my computer? ( I assume he meant that the blue tooth won't work to move pics)....that is a huge pain as I would be wanting to load Podcasts daily as well as move pics to my pc.

This file namething is a HUGE pain though.......I wish there was a fix for it.

AS you can no doubt tell I am leaning towards keeping the 815....but still open to any and all advice....only two weeks before this is a done deal.

Razr has a mp3 player just no expansion slot like the e815. They even have a 1gb card now almost enough to hold 1/3 of my music.

I am really enjoying my 815.....with the exception of the having to rename mp3s it works like a charm. Been really enjoying listening to podcasts on the phone. The transflash is wayyy cool.

Well I really do love my 815, but still the sharp looks of the razr called to me...so today I bought a V3c razr as well. Now I have both lol. The razr is my phone for a night on the town...the 815 is my daily work horse and play phone. Its all good now!!!

Oh...I almost forgot...my V3c has an 8x zoom on the camera, and an mp3 player...I thought both were misprints but they are there and work. I am using bluetooth and Phone tools to transfer podcasts, music and pics to and from the razr...works well but much slower than the flashcard in the 815.

UPDATE.....I have had both the MOTO 815E and the Razr v3C for about 3 months....here is my take on both phones.

I have both phones with two different numbers sharing one airtime package, I often call forward numbers when I decide to switch phones for a few days.

First of all, the vibrate mode on the 815 is definetly lacking...I found myself missing calls because the vibrate was not powerful enough to catch my attention. The Vibrate mode on the RAZR is MUCH better, and as good as anything I have ever used.

The buttons one the 815 are definetly easier to use for people like myself with big fingers. About one times in ten I make a mistake pushing buttons on the Razr....never happens on the 815.

The micro sd card on the 815 is really really awsome...and a must for geeks and techies...I find it quite easy to use...and really makes the phone flexible.

All in all I find myself using the RAZR about 90% of the time, its smaller form factor and no arial to get caught on pants or seat belts is a blessing. The 815 is a wonderful phone but tends to look like everything else out there...the RAZR although quite common these days...is still a looker and you can't say that about many phones.

If I had to pick one over the other...for my purposes I would choose the RAZR....however If I didn't have a couple of Ipods I would chose the 815.

As far as reception is and dropped calls are concerned I would rate them excellent equaly...although I would suggest in iffy areas that the 815 might be superior because of the antenna.

Any...just my two cents...hopefully the info might help someone else trying to decide which phone they want.
