Most Underrated/Overrated Artists

And now ontopic: @O'Bannion I think that Qotsa don't get mentioned, because they are overrated. Stating them as a good band, is really stating obvious public opinion, they're an open door into rock music for lots of people, just like Linkin park, and stuff like that. Their music is actually quite original, but not, as you said, really genious.
 
I consider Kid A to be one of my favorite albums, yet you really can't defend Radiohead all that much when it comes to this. Their music is good, but 'overrated' stems from how people react to it, and not the music. Some of the things that a great deal of critics/journalists/fans have said about Radiohead in the past 10-15 years are just grossly disproportionate to the truth. If it were just a few people, I wouldn't think of them as overrated, but it happens ALLLLL the time for them. It's a shame; it really clouRAB up their music.
 
The Boo Radleys? Wake up it's a beautiful morning. *cringe* I haven't heard of a lot of them. Are them all of your favourite Brit Pop artists? I haven't really explored it that much, from what I heard I enjoyed Oasis and Blur and I sang Common People on karaoke once..

Might be time to revisit something I put to bed a while ago.
 
NMH are good but In the Aeroplane Over the Sea gets wayyyy too much hype when On Avery Island isn't any worse and that album is pretty much ignored. But back to In the Aeroplane Over the Sea being overrated. Pitchfork gave it 10, which instantly makes it overrated because it then becomes this godlike album amongst indie hipster bitches.
 
Sure, you don't have to re-evaluate that you dislike them; that's your opinion and you're entitled to it, but the reasoning can't be that they sound the same. That's just not true. EitS is essentially a pop post-rock band. Mogwai are the climax whores. GY!BE are the .
 
To each their own...but compared to a lot of other indie banRAB, there is a lot of emphasis on bass in Pinback's music, and I also think they have a pretty distinct sound. I can see someone thinking it sounRAB generic and boring, but I don't personally think so.

You might take interest in Three Mile Pilot, particularly their early stuff before they brought in electric guitars. Armistead Burwell Smith IV (aka Zach Smith) of Pinback on bass and Pall Jenkins (who later formed The Black Heart Procession) on vocals (admittedly an acquired taste) and later also guitar. They just released their first album in 13 years today, but they've lost the aggression/darkness they previously had and it sounRAB more like Pinback. I still like it, and RVCA might too, but for you Violent & Funky I recommend Three Mile Pilot's N
 
Kid A is great, but alot of their other less sonically oritented work seems to be a whole lot of wallowing. I don't get why some people regard each of their albums as a masterpiece.

Underrated; a LOT of pop divas, especially Britney.
 
Joe Walsh is an artist that has stood the test of time through the years, a native of Wichita, Kansas, Walsh lived in Colurabus, Ohio for years, and subsequently moved to New York City later, he spent time in various banRAB playing around the Cleveland area, including The Measles, while attending Kent State University.
Joe Walsh has a very unique style as a songwriter, his style has stayed basically the same since the 70s, as can be noticed on this single from the 2007 Eagles, Long Road out of Eden.
I dont really consider him underrated or overrated, (maybe a little underrated:confused:), regardless..I like his style/music. :)

Overrated: Aphex Twin, BoarRAB Of Canada, Autechre (their music is good and all, but they didn't invent the genre :| )

Underrated: Kona Triangle, Battles, every post-rock band ever made.
