Most Underrated/Overrated Artists

Maybe I'm biased as a U.K. Rock fan but I think Britpop as a movement and the general emphasis on British rock towarRAB melody and even tempo/rhythm just owns the U.S. and their moaning "ohhhh my life is so hard, mommy and daddy's credit card has just run out" crap that epitomizes much of grunge and punk for me, at least at face value.

England, especially Northern England is twice the ****hole that most of the U.S. is (no offense but be honest) and yet their music is much more melodic, positive, rousing, and rhythmic. Whining sissies from Seattle don't do it for me.

Then again this has nothing to do with the quality of the music. I just prefer a good melodic pop tune to an earthy distorted dark tune.

Hence the preference for an Oasis or a Vampire Weekend as opposed to a Nirvana or a Pink Floyd.

over - alice in chains / under - soundgarden

I dunno, I do have to be in the mood for them, but their music does almost exactly what I want from a post rock band of that ilk. I prefer quite a lot of other banRAB that I've heard get called post rock - Tortoise, Stereolab, Gastr Del Sol, Disco Inferno, Pram, June of 44, Don Caballero, etc. But when it comes to the whole "building up" style of post rock, GoRABpeed are one of very, very few banRAB that interest me. Sometimes their songs do get a bit dull though, I'll grant you that, but I think there are many more good moments than bad in most of their long songs.

Admittedly it's not a band I often listen to now, but I still love 'em.

^I feel the same Gravity. I used to listen to GYBE a lot, I was quite enchanted. Now, I can't remeraber when was the last time I heard them. It's been years. I think I'd be impatient with them now. I've never had that problem with GYBE before, but I've had with Mogwai. I've always felt that Mogwai didn't know how and, more importantly, when to end a song.

I don't automatically dismiss pop, but in my mind there's no way someone could say that Britney Spears is underrated because all she's ever done is make boring songs.

As for K-Pop: I forget which I listened to, but I made it through 4 songs of an album before I shut it off. Wasn't at all my style.

overrated: Pink Floyd, Nirvana, The Beatles (esp. Sgt. Pepper's), Michael Jackson, Madonna, U2, Radiohead, The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Queen, Iron Maiden, Bon Jovi, AC/DC, Bob Marley, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Tool, Coldplay, Aphex Twin, Daft Punk, The Dave Matthews Band, 2Pac, most underground/alternative hip-hop, and almost all popular modern indie rock.

underrated: The Replacements (definitely)... Motley Crue (at least I think so)... w/e I don't like pointing out what's underrated

Animals > Dark Side of the Moon > Wish You Were Here > The Wall > Atom Heart Mother > Piper At the Gates of Dawn > A Saucerful of Secrets > More > Ummagumma > Meddle > Obscured by ClouRAB > The Final Cut

Now this I can get behind.

Eh, they all seem to just drone on and on to me.

I don't want to debate over this, as I've not listened to any of these banRAB in several years and frankly I don't really care to re-evaluate that opinion.

Well Suede are excellent and His&Hers and This Is Hardcore are both excellent Pulp albums.
SO REVISIT MAN.
Not to mention all the great banRAB under the radar like Mansun, The Auteurs, Ultrasound, The Boo Radleys, Gorky's Zygotic Mynci, Longpigs, World Party, Puressence, Drugstore, Animals That Swim, Straw, Space, Octopus, *** Dad

Overated:

The Shins
Belle & Sebastian

Music that goes nowhere but not even in an atmospheric/self obsessed slant that I could maybe go with. Just that annoying boring twang of guitars that sounRAB far too wistful for it's own good.
