Most underrated cartoon?

What Cartoon's do you think are really underated?

For me I think I will go "My Gym Partner's a Monkey".

Sure the show had some awful jokes but not deserving for it's hate.

I also think "Brandy and Mr. Whiskers" is a pretty underrated show. I always laughed at it. However it had hate.

A thread like this pops up from time to time and each time I bring up “Viva Pi?ata”. The show is largely dismissed because it’s a 4K!ds show that was only really created in order to help Microsoft sell games, but it was one of the most fun animated programs that I’ve ever had the privilege of watching and it’s unfortunate that a decent amount of episodes are still unaired in the states.

I’ll agree with you on that one. “Brandy & Mr. Whiskers” was actually the reason that I joined rabroad. I made talkback threads for all of the episodes in its second – and final – season and most of them only received a handful of replies. The series was pretty good once you got past the toilet humor, although I still dislike how they changed the series dramatically in the second season…

The theme song was also done by Lou “Mambo No. 5” Bega. An interesting fact in its own right.

No shows come to mind, but can I include a cartoon movie in this? I thought that the 2007 CGI TMNT movie was very underrated. I loved that movie, but I kinda feel like I'm the only one since there's not a whole lot of talk about it.

I think "Dave The Barbarian" was incredibly underrated. It got horrible ratings on the Disney Channel, so that started treating it badly pretty quickly, and few people on the internet seemed to like it. But, for the most part, I thought it was a very clever, funny show that deserved more attention than it got.

I really liked Freakazoid, it was funny and definately underrated. I must have been one of the few kids that watched it back then, because I read it didn't do very good with kids in the ratings.

Reign the Conqueror.
Reign the Conqueror.
Reign the Conqueror.

That is the reason: Reign the Conqueror. (And... it's not BAD people come on. For all its quirks it did something interesting that we've never seen before and compared to what is defined as "The worst anime ever." it's high art.)

I'd also include based on their rather abrupt cancellation: Clone High and Undergrads. Both were subversive and rather witty shows, and the latter is a surprisingly poignant take on university. It isn't quite like my time there back in the day, but I kinda watched it, nodded my head and was like.. "Yeah that's kinda university in a way."

The Critic, hands down.

It's one of my all-time favorite shows, and was so well-written, that every time I watch it, I pick up on jokes I missed the time before.

And bear in mind I've watched each episode a minimum of 5-10 times each...I still find stuff I missed before.

That takes really good writers to do.

Unfortunately, it was never really given a chance.

I too enjoyed Freakazoid quite considerably...but wasn't sure exactly how much they could really do with it.

It was sorta one of those situations like giving the Animaniacs creator free reign to do another show...and we saw the *ahem* result....

If I had to choose a cartoon of today then I would go with Bakugan for the simple fact that a lot of older folks will discount this cartoon as being too "toyetic" and not worthy of airing on CN when they could air their precious Naruto instead. Well, I for one like Bakugan because of it's fun storyline, great animation and easy to like characters, sure it's a little cliche` at times and it isn't the most complex or involving story, but it's not a horrible show and people should try to give it a shot despite it's toyetic shell.

If I had to choose a cartoon of yesteryear then I would probably have to go with WildC.A.T.S because of it's fun action and the great characters associated with the team. This show was based on one of my favorite comic book's of the early 90's and I felt the show was every bit as good as the comic even though it was short lived. When you hear people talk about great animated series based on comic book's you almost never hear them talk about WildC.A.T.S, but I do.

this is more of a long forgotten one considering i don't remember much of it past the basic plot of the show but.. ZORRO had a good cartoon going for a while. i really enjoyed it, the big movie was good as well which helped get the cartoon off the ground i am sure.

Gotta agree with you on this. While I didn't watch it a lot, I liked what I saw, and if I was a kid when it came out it would probably be one of my favorite shows.

I'm gonna go with Dragon Hunters, both the show and the movie based off of it. There are so many things I like about it; the well-rounded characters, the gorgeous backgrounds, the voices, and the writing. The only reason both can be considered underrated is that Cartoon Network completely botched the airing of the show when they got the rights to it; I think they showed about six episodes before yanking it completely. I feel like if they had aired the show on Miguzi or Toonami, it could have been a hit like Totally Spies and Code Lyoko, two other French shows on those blocks. Thankfully, most of the show and movie are available on North American DVD, but a full second season of 26 episodes aired in France and Germany (Where the show is a big hit) last year, and because of what happened with the show over here, we'll never see them dubbed or brought stateside in any form. Real shame.

I'm probably going to be on a limb by myself here, but Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi.

Sure Sam Register made it to pretty much sell merchandise off the band (because of their fame with only the Teen Titans theme song.) But watching the cartoon, it was different. It went back to the 3 episodes per show format (That Dexter, Cow & Chicken, ect.) did, The 3 main VA's were great, and it was just an overall feel-good show for me. Hell, some of the later episodes when they pretty much mock themselves is great 4th-wall breaking. (Such as the episode Sound Off!)

I've recently been watching episodes of Extreme Ghostbusters on the internet and I've really been enjoying them. I think they're just as good as the original series (even if there tones differ) yet they don't seem to get much respect from the fan base. It's definitely an underrated classic. Actually, looking back at it, I think Extreme Ghostbusters could've revived the Ghostbusters franchise big-time similar to how Beast Wars revived the Transformers franchise in the US if it had gotten the right people behind it.

Great post. I didn't expect anyone to bring up this mostly little known show. I watched it religiously back in 97 when it still aired. Having just bought the gb game recently, it's revived my interest in seeing the franchise come back possibly in cartoon form or whatever. I don't care. Interesting that you bring up that show since looking back, it really is a good quality toon unlike a lot of today's nonsense. Hindsight and all that...

It's not just similar to transformers. In a way it failed where TMNT 2k3 succeeded (and continues to succeed though I've lost interest in it.)

Underrated cartoons:

Invader Zim. This show was brilliant yet cancelled way too soon. If you're like 12, find it online or somewhere.

Peter pan and the pirates. (I put a bunch of eps on my veoh channel. Check it out. I watched this when I was maybe 5 years old.) http://www.veoh.com/collection/PeterPanandPirates (I'll put up more episodes as I can find them.)

Jumanji (I don't know how but they made a good show based on that silly movie.)

Men in Black. Just quality toonage right here yall.

Oh what the hell...

Jackie Chan Adventures :crying: what a great show. Whoever greenlighted this was a genius.

Eek! the Cat comes to mind, It was, right after Ren and Stimpy, Rockos modern life and some of WB's best offerings, probably the cleverest of the early-mid 90's "crazy slapstick cartoons". The Klutter segment of the show (that came along in the third season, if i remember correctly) was even better than the main feature. But what else to expect, when it was created by a Simpsons writer (namely none other than Al "yes, Lisa Simpson is my author avatar" Jean).

Dave the Barbarian, I thought was hilarious. Didn't get much attention, though.

Even though I didn't love Brandy and Mr. Whiskers, I thought it was a pretty good show when I was younger...
