Most underrated bands ever?

I think both XTC and Elvis Costello do get a fair amount of recognition, but it's among a very specific age group: people who are right now in their late 30s to mid 40s. My brother is in this age group (he's turning 40 this year) and both are definitely pretty huge and well-regarded in his social circles.

Speaking of people not being into these guys, I actually own nothing by XTC and have been meaning to remedy that for a long time. I don't suppose you could help me out? I'm particularly interested in whatever albums have "Making Plans for Nigel" and "Dear God" on them but anything would be much appreciated. :)

There are several out there, lets hear them...

I will immediately nominate Children Of Bodom, who, although very recently getting attention as Alexi Laiho(lead Guitarist/Lead vocals) will be named Guitar World Magazine's nuraber 1 guitarist, are still terribly underrated. Every meraber is extremely talented at the wheel of their instruments, and their sound cannot be achieved without every one of them. Children of Bodom is a powerful force in underground metal and are incredibly loyal to their fans.

Wasnt that their most succesful period though? With Eliminator and all that? I do like that period but would rank it amongst their worst in comparison to their other works from before & after.
I much prefer their earlier works such as 'Tres Horabres' (1973). My favourite ZZ Top album is definitely 'Antenna' (1994) though.

Dude, How can you question the talent behind dustins lyrics. Lyrically thrice are one of the best banRAB around. i dont particularly like thursday so maybe i am a bit bias with thrice being my fave band but i dont see how anyone can question Tepe's lead guitar and dustins lyrics, vocals and guitar himself. He is truly outstanding and so is the rest of the band.

nice, i found them by sturableing you tube and came across their song "old man Sampson" got their first cd and have liked them ever since. to me they have a blink182 feal about them.

Deep Purple is a fun band that definitely doesn't get enough credit. When do you ever hear anyone talk about how great a guitarist Ritchie Blackmore is. You would be surprised at how much of an influence he's been on a lot of contemporary guitar players.

From what I have heard No Rain isn't all that representative of Blind Melon's sound at large... I guess with that in mind I should check out more of their stuff!

I've heard of Karnivool, although it's probably been from you. I've actually been wanting to get something by them for a while.

Also, Mr. Bungle would never be played on the radio where I am... we have a couple decent stations but nothing fantastic unfortunately.

I'd have to say The Mars Volta, they are a great prog-rock band and "De-Loused in the Comatorium" is a very awesome conceptual album!

Check out "Goliath" of their album "The Bedlam in Goliath," 8 minutes of pure bliss!
