Most underrated anime?

Hello :D

Just how the title goes, is their a anime that you think is very underrated and deserves more attention from what you seen?

I'm just go right ahead and say Hitman Reborn. Not only am I surprised there is a lack of a good Anime talkback(I don't consider the one with five pages and it's first post was from the beginning of the series.) but there is no manga thread either which made my jaw drop since the series is getting really good. The first season will make you wonder if it's just a comedy, but wait until the second season and you got yourself a completely different show. It's one of my top favorites now.

I thought the manga talkback was the regular one and the anime talkback was the Crunchyroll one?

-Anyway, yeah. Reborn totally. I mean, what the heck? Why isn't everybody seeing/reading (Especially reading) this? It's an amazing shounen that has become a great action series. Really you do have to get past the comedy first part before you can get to the good stuff.

-Also, from the Gundam side of things, Gundam X. The UC's that haven't been liscensed don't count because ZZ and V are both infamous in their own ways and Turn A is just it's own beast it's memorable in it's very existence. But, no. Nobody every talks about X. Yeah sure, it wasn't as long as the others and maybe it could have done a few things better but it was a solid series on it's own. And Jamil is like one of the manliest masked men (behind Schwartz and Char) to me in Gundam history. I mean, heck, I very rarely see him in those group masked men shots you see in fanart.

-Planates...just...just Planetes.

-Also on the manga side of things, why don't we have a "Psyren" talkback? That's a good one too.

Blue Gender is pretty underrated, IMO. Sure, the animation is really low-budget and bland-looking, and the characters can overdo their emotions sometimes, but the story of the show is presented in a very interesting way and always managed to keep me entertained. I don't exactly know what it is, but the show had a certain charm to it that kept me addicted. It also involved killing giant bug-things, which is always cool.

But, besides that, it had deeper themes to it, and the characters became much more likable towarRAB the end of the anime.

Full Metal Panic! (1st Season)- Alright, let me just specifcy that I only consider this anime to be underrated in comparison to its 3rd season, The Second Raid. Anybody else will tell you that TSR is a far superior series, and I can understand why, but honestly, as much as I LOVE TSR, there were also a lot of things which I disliked about it. For one thing, it had too much "techno-talk" that sounded boring, and a few episodes themselves weren't very entertaining.

Also, while this season was darker and focused only on drama, that kind of worked against it since I prefer a balance between drama and light-hearted comedy, which the first season had plenty of. There was also that whole ordeal with Sousuke going somewhat emo on us for too long, which I wasn't a fan of, but, I still liked TSR a lot. My point in this comparison, though, is that the 1st season of FMP seemed to have all of the best elements that I like to see in an anime, and it also had a MUCH better main villain. I mean, Gauron was way more interesting and bad-ass than Gates, IMO.

Of course, if the later novels were to get animated, then the season(s) with them in it would completely dominate any of the already existing seasons of the FMP anime. Sure, I'm kind of contradicting myself here, since they are so much darker and more dramatic than even TSR, and focus very little on comedy since the series takes a very serious change of pace, but the writing just manages to stay so intense, and the pacing just feels so smooth, that I hardly ever have a boring moment when reading the later novels. Also, Sousuke actually elevates to the level of a genuine bad-ass through some brilliant character development.

Anything by Masaaki Yuasa.

To a slightly lesser extent, Kino's Journey. To an even lesser but still significant extent, Serial Experiments Lain and Paranoia Agent.

Haibane Renmei always seemed like a title that isnt all that well known

Doki Doki School Hours

ill agree with the Serial Experiment Lain point as well

For anime series that are underrated, I'll have to go with Wedding Peach, as I seem to be one of the few people who seem to like this series.

A lot of people who have heard of this series thinks that it's a Sailor Moon rip-off. While both series are very similar, I think that Wedding Peach does some things better than Sailor Moon.

For one thing, I think that Wedding Peach is a better heroine, and leader, than Sailor Moon, as in the early episodes of the series, Sailor Moon tended to be a wuss, when it came to fighting monsters.

Plus, I have to say that Limone, an angel that helped Wedding Peach and the other Love Angels from time to time, is more useful than Tuxedo Mask, as he did more than just throw roses.

Wedding Peach's speeches also tend to be more creative than Sailor Moon's, as the first part of her speech is different for each monster/villain that she fights.

I love and agree with Reborn, but despise the notion that you have to "Get through the comedy for the good stuff." The comedy episodes are entertaining and the serious arcs are only good because of them.

Hokuto no Ken. And I might as well add City Hunter.

They're known, but not large enough to be mainstream distributed out of Japan anymore. Or dubbed, or re-licensed at all. Hokuto no Ken got a short dvd/dub run in 1999, City Hunter got a better one in 2003 but as far as I know was subbed only and never dubbed.

I would love seeing these picked back up and given another chance.

Although when it is discussed it is generally praised, the actual discussion of it is very little, especially when compared to countless other anime, most of which are far inferior. Also, many of those anime have had great dubs, TV runs, countless re-releases, and lots of promotion and coverage. With this anime, my thrid favorite anime ever, which has been out for a while, has had almost none of those.

It was one of the best OVAs (my favorite) ever. There's so much packed into it. FLCL is also a short OVA from years ago, but people still discuss that all the time.

No. I wouldn't call the Kenshin anime great or underrated at all. It's still pretty good, though.

Pretty much any anime/manga before the late 90's. They're not as fancy, flashy, overlydramatic, colorful, or "KAWAII" as the recent. Many "Kodomo" anime/manga as well.

But, definite mention goes to Gregory's Horror Show(and Pecola, as well).

All 3 of these series. I watched Kino a few weeks ago and fell in love with the series. An all-time favorite almost immediately.

Also, it came out recently, but Tytania seemed to go a bit under the radar. I know, I know, Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Legend of the Galactic Heroes. I think Tytania stanRAB well on its own, though.
