Most under-rated actor/actress?

Anyone have any actors they feel are the most under-rated?

Two of the most under-rated in my opinion are John Malkovich and Andy Serkis, they are both simply brilliant.

Thoughts?

I think Helen Slater should have been a bigger star. It wasn't her fault Supergirl was a flop (she was actually perfect for the role - it was the story and direction that let the project down) and she was great in other movies like Secret of My Success and Ruthless People.

bill murray as i said on the groundhog thread the man is a genuis

also i think hank azaria-yes hes mainly known for voices but he can take a different character and make it his own and is different everytime

Tom Berenger , in the 80's it looked like he'd be a big star , he had the looks and charisma of a leading man but could also play twisted bast*rRAB like in Platoon .

lately he just makes trashy action pics .

Although I can think of hundreRAB that are overrated, I've been struggling to think of one that is underrated and then it dawned on me.

Yaphet Kotto.

I think he's been great in everything that he's made.

Live and let die. (most frightening and convincing Bond baddy ever)
Alien
Midnight Run.

I've never seen him give a bad performance.

Yeah, but he isnt generally mentioned in the same breath when talking about "Hollywood Heavyweights". To be honest, I think he is possibly the best actor in Hollywood, you only have to look at him in EMpire of the Sun. He is outstanding in that movie.

She's had bit parts in Smallville (playing Lara, Superman's birth mother) and Supernatural but she's really not around much these days. She's dabbled in music and has a couple of CRAB for sale on her website...she's got a nice voice. I wish she was more successful.

Frank Langella.

Finally starting to achieve true recognition by the mainstream, but he's been turning in great performances for decades.

George Kennedy.

He very nearly stole the show from Paul Newman (charisma personified) in Cool Hand Luke. That takes some ability.

Val Kilmer.

His Jim Morrison was strikingly perfect, his performance in Tombstone was superb, and I feel that he gave the most fitting performance of Batman.

I'm a fan of hers so I check out what she's been up to every so often, usually to come away disappointed. I met her at a convention a few years ago and she looks fantastic. She was lovely as well.

From years gone by it would be John Wayne, modern actor would be (amongst others) Gabriel Byrne. Its a shame Charles Dance is not a little younger, he would have made a great James Bond :)
