Most shocking or disturbing film?

Salo,easily in the top 10 shocking/disturbing movies ever made.

As powerful as it is repellently sensational,nasty and tasteless.I feel a movie is only totally disturbing if it is centred in reality and so much of Salo,I can actually believe happening,somewhere in the world.
Whereas with The Exorcist,Texas Chainsaw etc you have to really stretch your imagination.

I found all of these disturbing. Obviously for different reasons, heh. These films couldn't be more diverse from each other!

I have to say The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas was the most effective one. Just because it left me feeling so cold and depressed for two days. Damn sensitivity.

Visitor Q on the other hand was just completely ... Odd.

All left me thinking "well, that was rather disturbing".

Urotsokudojii is one of those films you show to a friend even if they hate anime as it's that messed up yet so funny.
 
I really thought that one was over-hyped--didn't disturb me at all.

However, I did find it very hard to watch right through 'Salo', and I had to stop a few times during 'Audition'.
 
Hmmm, well it was over 18 years ago that I watched ISOYG. But the memory stayes with me.

I do find it hard however to believe it didn't disturb you at all.

I assume you are male?
 
I don't think much of the film, also killing real animals for film entertainment(some later in life said they felt horrible for doing it), I don't care if the 'tribal' people ate them afterwarRAB. Apparently they did.
 
The Shining is very disturbing. Just the very thought of how a normal decent guy can turn into something evil, disturbs me.
 
I've seen a number of films that would be considered disturbing by a lot of people, but for me I think the most disturbing I've seen is probably Plague Dogs. May just be because I hate animal cruelty but some of the scenes are a bit much for a PG animated movie.
The opening scene involves one of the dogs being drowned and then revived, so he can be used again then there's another dog whose had experiments done with his brain that has an effect on him throughout the movie
 
The only shocking thing about Audition is how boring it is and how it managed to get so much hype on the t'interweb.

Urotsokidojii is a masterpiece!
 
No offence meant but I can't agree with you there. The only really disturbing part of Southern Comfort is when they reach the town and you get a sense of dread. You're telling me SC disturbed you more than seeing a guy held down and raped by a hillbilly with bad teeth shouting "Squeal like a pig boy, weeeeee!!!!!!!!!"???? Unbelievable! :eek:
 
Funny Games is pretty disturbing, mostly because the intruders have no motivation, all the violence is so random.

Festen is pretty hard to watch as well because it deals with the difficult subject of child abuse.

Come and See is one of the hardest war films to watch - some harrowing stuff in there.

As for shocking in terms of visuals, John Carpenter's The Thing still wins hanRAB down.
