Most shocking ending

Loved Shawshank but had read the book before so knew the ending!
The 6th Sense was a complete surprise - don't think any film has topped that as a genuine shock.
With regarRAB to TV - Series 1 of 24 when Teri bites it was one hell of a shock to me!

I remember finding the end of Gus van Sant's Elephant quite shocking, even though I pretty much knew that was going to happen.

The ending of Lilya 4 ever was also quite unexpected, along with the already mentioned Arlington Road.

I liked the ending to American Psycho.
It's the twist at the end that turned the film from run-of-the-mill to clever.
Suddenly you feel for the guy.

I went to see a late night showing of Carrie with a mate who hadn't seen it. He DID jump out of his seat in the cinema, stood up and unfortunately landed on his butt since the seat had flipped back up...I did PMSL but it spoiled the moment somewhat :)

It wasn't so much the end of the film but was near it - when the lead female was killed in Deep Blue Sea. You expect it to be another situation of "Yeah, yeah, she escapes at the last second. The guy will save her just in time." When the shark got her, I was like WHAT?!

I ALWAYS guess the ending of films and I did not see the end of Saw coming!!

In fact I was so freaked out at the end that I when i went out into the kitchen and caught my reflection in the patio doors I screamed like a little girl, my husband came out and realised what happened and almost wet his pants laughing at me.

I also remember the first time I saw Shawshank Redemption and I thought he'd killed himself at the end, and then all is revealed - I was very impressed!

The original Dutch version of The Vanishing had the most shocking ending of any film I have ever seen it still makes me shudder just thinking about it now

I always remember seeing LA HAINE in the cinema and every single person in the cinema sitting deathly still & quiet until the entire credits had finished rolling.

That was just horrific. You knew the guy was scarily weird, but the end...ugh, it had me shaking.

The end of Easy Rider was a shock.

And the twists in Fight Club and The Others were very good.

Inside Man - was loving this movie until the ending. Mr Haversham was really pissed when he watched it, ruined what was a good movie for him

I've skipped most of these posts so as not to have my memory jogged, I'll read them after. I would have to say the ones that come to mind right now are :

Carrie - you just don't expect that hand through the earth, although I've seen it many times and KNOW what's about to happen, it still makes me jump a mile.

The Others - The ending where they are ALREADY dead was astounding to me, it may seem obvious after seeing it but at the first showing I had no idea. Very sad. I see myself floating around my former house, never wanting to leave, when I go with the 'others'!

The Sixth Sense - We should have guessed but well, I didn't until that ring fell off his finger. Brilliant stuff.

I've just realised that all three films I've put here are horror stories with 'ghostly' endings! I'm sure there are many more that don't involve ghoolies.

Blair Witch Project - when you see that guy facing the wall.
That's not the ending I remember. Mind you I was getting audio description from Brian out of Family Guy.

"Nothing's happening, nothing's happening, nothing's happening, nothing's happening... it's over. A lot of people in the theatre look pissed." :p

Me to!I thought he'd find a way to get things right and get back together. And in the ending when he sees her follow her, even though been stupid but still.

And defo the sixth sense and the others.Just sat there kinda eh

I'll second that.....watched it at college and everyone was in complete shock at the end. For me, it was so unexpected. Great film.
