Most popular and least popular countries in

What are the most popular and least popular countries in animation? I have noticed by far, the most popular countries are the US and Japan. First almost American cartoons take place in the US and almost all anime takes in Japan. But going deeper a lot of anime refence the US, have American characters, etc, if any country besides Japan is going to be featured in anime, it will likely be the US. On the other side the coin a lot of American cartoons feature Japan, having characters visit Japan, etc.

As for least popular, I haven't seen Kenya referenced in any cartoon.

I don't believe it's a matter of popularity. It's more of a matter of what locales work for storylines. More along the lines of trends maybe.

I see lots of referances to China, Egypt, and France. I have never heard referances to Azerbaijan, Macedonia, Bahrain, Qater, Benin, Eritrea, Lesotho, Seychelles, Mozambique, El Salvador, Surniname...

China has joined Korea as a cheaper labor source for animation. I'm quite impressed with at least three series that come from France. But really only Japan with it's different ideas of what animation viewers (notice I didn't say kids) will watch, that tends to put them on top for quality stories. France and by association Canada that also has animation studios and uses show ideas both from the US and France is a close second.

Sadly, when you look at the animation of the Mid-East and other countries that lean toward propaganda, you'll find the animation is aimed at forming young minds to hate what the particular government hates.

Because most of the cartoons you're watching come form either America or Japan, and most of the time a domestic setting is in those shows.

Forget Norway!

TV series of any stripe will concentrate on their own countries simply because that's the audience they're catering to. Unless they're going for something exotic, but with cartoons the 'exotic' countries are rarely explicitly named. It's only natural.

It may not be explicitly named, but from the looks of it, 'The Lion King' is set in Kenya. Or one of it's close neighbors.

The Philippines are also a cheap place to animate. That's where Class of the titans was animated.

Anyway... Canadian animated series have been a lot more willing to show their origins and explicitly say they're set IN Canada.

I also see Canada mentionned a lot in Billy & Mandy for some reason :p
