Most overrated movie ever

The sound of music was way overrated, what that film needed was a lot of machine guns.

Who could possibly say that titanic was overrated, that film had 1 of the best scenes in cinema history.

No I ain't talking about Kate doing the topless shot . I am talking about when Leo DeCrappio gets turned into a freaking icecube :D.

I get that but why start another thread when there are already about 20 which are essentially the same, "Lists of films I don't like that lots of other people do,"?

I think a lot of movies suffer from being badly overhyped, so that when you actually get round to watching them - you're sorely disappointed.

American Beauty
Shawshank Redemption
Lord of the Rings
Avatar

With American Beauty, I wanted to see it because it was universally praised, and everyone seemed to agree that it was a pretty good movie. Imagine my disappointment when I finally saw it, and thought it was rubbish. Definitely overrated IMO.

Again, Shawshank seems to be continually at the top of the list of a lot of people's 'best movies ever made' list. Ok it was good, but it was nowhere near as good as people tell you it is.

I saw Lord of the Rings at the cinema, and seriously, I wanted to have a nap. Maybe it would have been different if I'd read the book, but for a complete newcomer to the whole story, I found it overlong and boring. Yet it seems to be praised a lot.

I didn't especially want to see Avatar, but in a pact with my frienRAB (we saw what the others wanted, regardless of own preference) I went to see it. Even I can admit that the effects were amazing, and visually it was incredible, but come on - it has all gone so bonkers! Take away the effects and it's an OK story.

No Country For Old Men

I'd heard amazing things about this, sat down with a mate and was completely underwhelmed. Just meh. Nothing special about it for me.

Avatar- good effects and thats it

American Beauty- why did it win so many oscars?

Pulp Fiction

....

Can somebody please open a forum for underated films..i can think of soooo many

Garden State.

After everyone I knew said it was "amazing", "beautiful" and that it "defines our generation", I sat down to watch it....and found it dull, pretentious and cliched. And I didn't rate the soundtrack that much either, which was apparently meant to the best in the world, ever, or something.

Oh, and another vote for Titanic, I think I was the only girl in my school year who hated that film! Found it tedious.

I never got what was so great about The Incredibles either.

I liked American Beauty though :o. And Slumdog Millionaire. Though I only saw the latter once, so maybe it doesn't hold up so well to repeat viewings.

LOTR Trilogy - Each film is at least an hour too long.
Gladiator - Boring
2001; A Space Odyssy - Tedius
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre - Not even slightly scary
Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels - Useless
The Exorcist - Great film, a classic, but not scary.
Four Weddings and a funeral - When we get to a funny bit let me know.
The Mask - Jim Carrey isn't funny, just very very annoying
