Most overrated film-maker

George Lucas - cannot write for toffee, not particularly good at anything but special effects. The Empire Strikes Back was the best of the Star Wars series because, lo and behold, he was only executive producer.

M Night Shyamalan - The Sixth Sense was good... Everything else he's done is crap.

Eli Roth - One-trick pony - Donnie Darko was good, Cabin Fever was crap, and Hostel is even worse.

Ang Lee - Sorry.

Up until a few years ago I would have said Guy Ritchie. 10 years on and I still can't get over Lock, Stock... being compared to The Long Good Friday etc. It was like a mediocre student film with a decent budget. Glad to see people have realised how crap he is.

off the top of my head, tim burton

lars von trier and georgi daneliya get too much praise in some circles as well, as does larry clark.

speilberg...........getting to the point where IMHO... he's gonna get slated in years to come for going on a, i'll make a few more films about the persecution of the jews ramble... not that thats a bad thing.. Whats the betting his next film will be about the life of Simon Weisenthal, thats if its not already been done

:)

It has to be Michael Winner. Famous for making one film several times, (Death Wish), yellow underear (allegedly), and moaning about other people's cooking.

I agree! After his sucess with Lord of the Rings people are just throwing money at him and no-one dares confine him. Look at King Kong you could have cut 30mins of that at least.

MacDonlRAB is a franchise! Is that any sign of quality?

anyway he is a one trick pony by the fact he is making Star Wars the TV series.

Barrel Scraper if ever there was one.

Peter Jackson isn't overrated. He always gets slagged off so how can he be overrated? He DID deserve the Best Director Oscar as recognition for the Lord of the Rings trilogy because really it's the biggest and most insane task any director in history has attempted, and pulled off in style. However, Return of the King, the one he won the Oscar for, I feel was the worst of the three movies, with Fellowship of the Ring being best by far. The problem was they didn't have a good enough set plan for The Two Towers and ROTK like they did with FOTR (which had an obvious start and cut-off point) so they turned out a bit screwy, and the promise shown in FOTR wasn't followed through, with the climax of ROTK not working well enough for me.

The battle sequences in all 3 movies were top class, there's no denying that. WETA did things with minatures that no-one else would even dream of doing, and they pioneered new CGI techniques and programs like MASSIVE, the ultimate CGI crowd generator. Also, Gollum was the biggest achievement. Sadly, Return of the King was just too big for Jackson to contain. It was a little too long, as was King Kong. But Kong was great.

The "barrel scraper" as you call him gives a lot of jobs to our film industry you moron-always the second and third shoots for the Star Wars films are done over here and if you got your self gratifying head out of your backside and looked at the second disc of the dvd,you would here a whole load of brit accents-and if we are talking about McDonalRAB go stuff a whole load in your mouth that were they belong-i am heartly sick of people like you slagging off these films all of the time!!
