Most overrated animated movie...

I do agree with those who claim Pixar is overrated. I enjoy their work as well, but their fanboy and fangirls are amazingly close-minded and think they're above everybody else just because "My all-time favorite movie is [insert title of recent Pixar film, only to be replaced by the next one, just to look faithful]!1! " Anybody who didn't lurve one of their amazing movies is apparently a moron. Yeah, guys, makes me want to take you seriously. Heaven forid you enjoy a Blue Sky or Dreamworks movie! (Which I have.)

If we're going to go by the Internet definition, then Happy Feet is my first choice. I'm sorry, but people kept telling me it was "Omg awesome and cute penguins!!" and I eventually bit and saw in theaters. I nearly fell asleep in the theater - which I never do!

I love Pixar films, but they're very overrated. Monsters Inc and The Incredibles are good films, but to me they're not as great as many people say they are..

I also never understood the hype among the Toy Story movies. I haven't seen it in a while, so I won't call it overrated until I see it again...

Toy Story 3 - it really was interesting seeing the characters after 10 years but lets face it; their missions to get back to Andy, the toys' disbelief in Woody and the evil, unwanted/abandoned toy have been done before. The new characters are fun and it did a fair job at holding my attention, but I've got to be honest, I really didn't find it all that fantastic. Andy's blank expressions even when the teen is supposed to be emotional is underwhelming (even his "Woody is brave and loyal" speech feels tacked on) and some of the supporting cast (anyone whose not Buzz, Woody or Jessie) starts to wear on the nerves after a while.

I thought it was funny on the 1st viewing but afterwards I didn't like it. I don't know if I'd call it overated though.

I consider Lion King to be somewhat overated, as a kid and now I do not understandd how Simba aged faster then Timon and Pumba nor did I understand the role of Simbas girlfriend who just showed up later out of nowhere. If it were written a little better it'd be darn well deserving of its fame, but lets not forget Kimba came first!

With Pixar Im in the majority of this thread, most of their films are overated and I'm certain their trick to this is their lack of decent competition and their reliance on emotion over humor. Aside from Toy Story I found most of their films to be too light hearted.

Yep, remember Brave Little Toaster?

I've read much worse, I think one of them was for someone who called Kung Fu Panda "bland". I find Kung Fu Panda to be outright overated as it wasn't bad as much as okay.

I found Avatar overrated. When I saw the movie, I thought, "THIS is what everyone is so hyped up about?" I found the plot predictable. I guess it was more of a 'Let's go see this movie because the visuals look cool' movie than a 'This movie is well written with exciting parts, not just fancy motion capture' movie. I just could never see what the big deal was with this movie.

Same here, and with all the CGI you could say that Avatar was animated though I don't think its overated as I hardly hear about it now, it just came and went.

True, but wouldn't a mere cat age much faster then a lion? If so Timon must have some of that Padme anti-aging drink, otherwise he'd be wrinkly and grumpy.

God, I hate, hate, HATE overrated threads. Overrated these days means "I think this media sucks and I hate how so many people like it. Stop liking things a lot. It annoys me"

To be fair, two of those reviews didn't actually address the problems they had with the movie and more like "Pixar is dreck and here's another reason why."

They're older, of course. But they don't have to be wrinkly and grumpy. I mean, they even address age in Hakuna Matata ("When I was a young warhog.") The rejection society placed on them caused them to make up their minds just to let it go and ignore everyone. So maybe a carefree life makes you age slower. ;)

These days. What.

That's like, a near definition of overrated. An object that gets too much praise and that you think it does not.

The only incorrect part is "this media sucks", you can still like a movie that is overrated, like Toy Story 3 or The Dark Knight or Pirates of the Caribbean.

Yes, that is the correct definition of overrated and yes you can still like a movie that is overrated. However, it has been warped to more than that. Instead of one thinking simply that an object gets too much praise, now it's just intended as bashing all the people who like the thing.

I mean, really, what is saying something is overrated going to accomplish? Am I suppposed to think "Some people think Toy Story 3 is overrated? Well, I guess I can't like it anymore. It's just too overrated. If so many people think a lot of people like something too much, then I guess I can't like it either." The way it's stated is like it's a fact of production like a movie being overrated is on the same level of, let's say, bad acting or poorly directed angles.

I never get these "overrated" threads. All I ever hear is "These stories have flaws in them! They don't deserve to be treated like they're perfect!"

Guess what? Perfect stories don't exist. Hell, perfect anything doesn't exist. So when something is closer to perfect than damn near everything else, it's going to be treated like it's perfect. We humans tend to express ourselves in extremes and in generalities, because it's easier than explaining every little detail about how we feel.

I think that everyone who labels something as being "overrated" should provide an example of something as good or better that isn't rated as highly. They should explain how the story accomplishes just as much, how it ties together just as well, how the characters are just as fun and engaging, etc.

If this were an Underrated thread Brave Little Toaster would have been my pick. Ironicly, quite a few people who went to form Pixar worked on it.

For me it's Happy Feet. It wasn't bad, but I don't really think it's as great as some people were saying.

BOLT - It was a cute film with a cute idea. But it really got overrated when it was getting nominated for Golden Globes and an Oscar. Then I`d go to Wal-Mart and the tvs are always set to that movie.

I think just about everything else about The Lion King is great: the animation, the characters, the plot, the constant shifts from drama to comedy. Also, lions and hyenas = two of the most badass animal species out there.

The soundtrack, however — that is extremely overrated in my opinion. To this day, I still hear "Circle of Life" and "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" everywhere I go, and I always thought those songs were blander than bland. And "Hakuna Matata" always made me cringe for some reason. I think TV Tropes is right on the money, calling it an Award Bait Soundtrack. Most other Disney movies with big, swoopy power ballad soundtracks are usually decent to inoffensive; I can't think of a Disney-based pop song that I particularly like, but the ones from The Lion King are among the few that I can barely stand listening to.
