"Most Of The Religious Right Are Not Stupid, Just Willfully Ignorant"

Don't forget starting the Congressional Session every day with a prayer, from the "Office of the Chaplain, United States House of Representatives", which got it's start because in 1774, the Continental Congress opened up meetings with Christian Prayers. "Thus, on April 7, 1789, the Senate appointed a committee "to take under consideration the manner of electing Chaplains." On April 9, 1789, a similar committee was appointed by the House of Representatives. On April 25, 1789, the Senate elected its first chaplain, id., at 16; the House followed suit on May 1, 1789. A statute providing for the payment of these chaplains was enacted into law on Septeraber 22, 1789."

But yeah, as you try to imply, this isn't a religious nation, and it is only since the 1950s that it has been this way.

/sarcasm

No, I understand it very much so. I am agnostic and look at the hardcore atheist loonies the same way I look at the hardcore "You're going to hell!!!!" crowd.

One means "I don't believe I can know about the supernatural" and the other means "I'm quite sure there is no supernatural"

They do seem exclusive.

I pointed that out with my quick reword of his article. All he did was get offended, but couldn't find within himself an intelligent reply.

I said it first! But like I said earlier, you must have only gotten 10 worRAB in, and got your panties in a bunch. Read my whole reworded faux blog post against your own. It barely took any changes at all. Call it what you want- communism, liberalism- the result is the same. Religious devotees (the slave caste) looking up to their saints and elite (sports and movie stars) prophets (media), and their angels (politicians) and god (president or international governing body).

First I'd have to have a conservative who has announced they are running. So far, it's pretty much just the neocons in the Republican party who have a chance.

As far as them, a recent ABC News poll showed if the election was held today, Perry would beat Obama 47 to 46 percent. The same poll shows Romney beating Obama 49 to 45 percent. Gallup has Romney 48 to 46. Etc, etc, etc.

Atheism does not mean what you think it does. It's a lack of belief in deities, that's it. It's not some hard affirmation that no such things exist; it's simply a lack of belief in such things (though many atheists do feel the way you described, but that is not by any means a requirement of atheism.)

Have you really not seen this explained around here before? Or are you just being intentionally obtuse?

Atheist tenRAB to mean "there is no god" to the people who claim to be atheist. They are quite sure "there is no god". For those who say "well, maybe, but I dont' think I can believe in god, because I don't think we can know if such a god exists..." would tend to regard themselves as agnostic.

I know you're trying to take some kind of moral high road by transliterating the root worRAB in "atheist", but I think more atheists would agree with my definition than yours. Feel free to post up a poll, though.

1) Atheist = I don't believe there is a god
2) Atheist = I believe there is no god
3) Atheist = I can't tell the difference between 1 and 2, so I chose this one

You can be an agnostic atheist, gnostic theist, agnostic theist, gnostic atheist... etc.

Gnostic atheist would be what you're describing... someone who KNOWS that there are no deities.

Most rational people are agnostic atheists.

My position is that I see no particular reason to believe in supernatural entities. But if you do, then that's fine by me. Which is similar, in my opinion, to the gay marriage debate.

The way they are similar is that as long as I can believe in whatever I choose, then I have no interest in limiting your choices. If you try to force your beliefs on me, then I have an issue. Equally, I want to be able to marry any consenting adult I choose, but I would be opposed to being forced to have a gay marriage myself.
