Most influential Individual in Music

Maybe I'm just an old fart but I have a hunch that nobody in the last 10-20 (maybe 30) years has had enough time to really make a dent when considering THE MOST influential person EVER.

give credit where it's due then

yeah but he had to invent 4 of them before he could go cruising for it.

Fire guy just had to spark up to get the flange flying towarRAB him.

If we were to discuss who is most influential in music at the moment, I would say Lady Gaga. She has numerous groups covering her and her videos and concerts are innovative and forward thinking. Currently no artist in mainstream music is up to par with her. Some may disagree with me but just look at the facts, and album sales. I swear her fan base is turning into a cult.

Obviously not-I heard they turned more Pop later into their career, and that's probably what I've heard. With Kiss you've either got the people who like them or the people who dislike them. I dislike them. And Gene Simmons is an idiot judging by his appearance on Rock School. Those kiRAB didn't even need his help.

I lol'd.

And my vote is for Buddy Holly. One of the first to write and produce his music along with playing it. He's also one of the few artists I listen to from the time that had more eclectic tracks on his albums. Take for example a chuck berry album-as much as I love him, most of the songs sound exactly alike. Buddy Holly had a real talent for writing different types of songs, rather than being a one-trick-pony.

For me, in terms of modern music, it comes down to three people.

Robert Johnson: His guitar playing I feel, was the first of it's kind and really turned the guitar into a mean instrument.

Buddy Holly: One of the first real performers to write their own songs. Not only that, he discovered (or was the first the use publicly, I feel, to say the least) just a simple method of writing music that produced so many of his wonderful catchy songs. I really wish I could have seen where he would have gone in time.

Bob Dylan: Even though countless blues artists and folk singers before him did it, he was the first to really capture a generation with songs about real life. I also feel because of how large his audience was/is and how far his music reached he was one of the first to be recognised as making music an art form. I feel that, from seeing a lot of those early variety shows, a lot of people thought music was a somewhat of a novelty, not in the sense of a fad, just something you grow out of once you're an adult. I feel that Bob Dylan was somewhat responsible for changing that perception a lot. Again, I really want to stress I'm not saying he's the first, but at least one of, if not the face of, many to do so. In doing what he did, he influenced countless singer-songerwriter including The Beatles.

Absolutely! He was a huge influence on blues songwriters which in turn influenced a lot of popular music today. Although... I have to question my own logic. Because popular music is so long evolving.

explosions what do you mean 'even Kiss had a nuraber one disco song'? Even Kiss? You say it as if they are some hardcore rock band. They are glam rock pure and simple. And I would also argue for Elvis Presley. Even though his lyrics were ghost written just look at the following he has. He even re-released a song recently and it topped the charts. Not many artists would be able to do that-not even John Lennon. He re-released Imagine, arguably one of his best songs, and it didn't make nuraber one. And the song Elvis released wasn't even one of his better ones.
