Most gruesome deaths in American animation

They pretty much exploded inside a vortex of total demise writhing around in a vain attempt to escape while moaning in severe agony.:ack:

Deadman-possed Batman killing Devil Ray wasn't exactly gruesome, but it was pretty shocking.

Also, replace all the robots with humans and Samurai Jack would essentially be Kill Bill (I wonder what they'll do with the movie).

The only gruesome death that comes to mind is one that didn't make it into the final cut.

The Black Cauldron was originally going to have a part where one of the Horned King's minions was melted by smoke from the cauldron.

I have a picture of a cel from that scene if anyone wants to see it. But I warn you, it is very disturbing.

Superman 90's
Kurt Bowman - Executed via Gas Chamber for murdering a woman and framing an innocent man.
Bruno Mannheim - Blown up in a nuclear explosion after being betrayed by Darksied.
Dan Turpin - Vaporized into literally nothing by Darksied

Beast Wars
Dinobot 1 (if it counts) - Beaten to death by the Preadacons while successfully savinng the entire human race.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit
Judge Doom - Eroded and melted into "the dip".

Dinsey's Tarzan
Clayton - Hung himself unintentionally while trying to kill Tarzan.

Oliver & Company
Roscoe and DeSoto - Electricuted on subway train tracks.
Sykes - Run over by a train.

The Lion King:
Mufasa - You KNOW why.
Scar - Eaten alive by his own minions.

Simba's Pride, as you may know, originally had a scene where Zira lets go of the cliff, in effect committing suicide. It was cut.

Does the 'death' of Batgirl/Barbra Gordon count when she was thrown from a tall building by Scarecrow and slammed into a car?

That was really brutal. Seeing her smack the windshield was just cringeworthy. Also Bane's electrocution looked gruesome too even though he supposedly died after throwing the Batsignal at Batman and Gordon.

When Joker dies in the "Return of the Joker" movie, mainly because it happened off-screen. Joker slips in water, grabs and activates an electric switch, then we cut to the others witnessing in horror. The audience can only imagine what happened to Joker after that.

Have you seen the uncut version? The death's almost less scary in it's graphic detail and simplicity (plus it strengthens the movie's anti-gun message, which WB probably wasn't fond of given how they worked so hard to cover up The Iron Giant's existence to please the NRA).

You can't imagine how wide eyed Toyman's death in Superman: Doomsday made me. That movie did not pull any punches, and "Superman" dropping Toyman onto that car was crazy.

The deaths of Goliath's clan in Gargoyle's 'Awakening'. Sure they were made of stone when it happened, but they were still living creatures. And later when they flash back to it, seeing the face of Coldstone just laying there in 'City of Stone' just made it all the more disturbing.

There's an uncut version?

**Looks at Imdb.com**

Wow, I never thought it went through so many edits, but if the Joker's death scene was meant to be like that, it's probably a lot less gruesome. The off-screen electrocution works better, I believe, as it certainly doesn't change how disturbing it was.

The uncut version (it's easily available on DVD and worth a rental if not a purchase) I find to be generally a more effective film than the edited version because it places a lot more pressure on Robin's character and makes the redemption themes much stronger. The edited version makes the Joker's death seem more like an accident than a direct murder.

The (original) Dinobot clone from Beast Wars, the one that was essentially a talking velociraptor. Although it died off screen, at the end when Dinobot's asked what happened to him, he burps up a little piece of the clone. I'd say that's pretty high on the gruesome ratio.
