^^ I would guess it'sbecause you can mentally prepare yourself for what's happening so there is not as much shock which was mixed with horror and disturb...
Totally agree, but i actually love Martyrs. Not because it's enjoyable, but because it's literally the only film i've seen that's had such an effect on me. I really felt disturbed after watching it. A truly horrifying movie.
As for Inside: I actually really liked it. The way that the creepy woman stalks the pregnant girl results in some of the most tense scenes in recent film memory.
Also, i watched The Human Centipede last night, and what can i say? It's definitely one of those films that's so bad it's good. I felt kinda bad because i was laughing through most of it The bit where the surgeon is whipping them and shouting "FEED HER! FEED HER!" had me in stitches (if you'll excuse the pun). It was just utterly ridiculous.
I'm kind of intrigued by this 'A Serbian Film'. Whenever someone says "don't watch it!" it seems to have the reverse effect on me, lol. Supposedly it's getting a lot of buzz at the moment, and it's going to be one of the main films at this years Frightfest.
This type of thread comes up now and again on here and last year I made a really effort to broaden my movie knowledge and ordered via Amazon rental several films that were mentioned on the previous thread - and some really shocked me................
Many have mentioned Irreversable without doubt the most graphic rape scene I have had to watch it was bloody awful - very upsetting indeed
And Funny Games - well that film stayed with me for months - still freaks me out to think about it - if you have not seen it and like a good mind game movie then this is worth the effort!
This year I have decided to stick to nice girlie movies - I can't cope with the horrid side of life!
It's the unexpectedness that's shocking, if you go to see Texas Chainsaw Massacre and are shocked by the violence.........with that title did you think it was a Musical like ?
That's why the girl getting the coke bottle smashed into her face in The Long Goodbye is so shocking, it came from nowhere, a thug proving to Elliot Gould how tough and unemotional he was. if he could break his own girlfriend's face for fun, what would he do when he was really pissed off...........
Haha yeah that film is off the charts, I took a date to see it in the cinema when it was released (late 80s?) and I wasn't sure it was the best idea I'd ever had when the last 20 minutes kicked in, especially the scene where the 'father' is literally talking out of his arse Classic film!
Honestly I didn't find myself all that shocked by it, I expected to be but I just found it all a bit absurd. I can understand certain scenes shocking people but personally I just found them a little over the top.
The only thing I got from the baby scene was that the director simply wanted to disgust and shock for the sake of it and I'm sure a lot of people will be shocked. I feel like I should be more bothered by it but i'm not, just thought it was crass, over the top and pretty fake looking, the thought of the act itself is shocking and disturbing enough and I actually think the film achieves the opposite of what they wanted and actually makes it less shocking and powerful by showing it the way they did.
It could have been a moment in the film that truly was shocking, disturbing and powerful if handled correctly but I feel they went the cheap shock headline grabbing route instead.
I would find it hard to take any film seriously where somebody
gets killed by having a huge, hard, plastic looking dick shoved through their eye or head as he didn't actually have an eye.
One minute i'm supposed to be shocked and disgusted at a
newborn being raped
the next i'm supposed to be what, laughing at
death by cock comedy style violence
Anyway those are just my views, there was some nice Serb eye candy in it though.
The 'War Zone' with Ray Winstone. I have watched it once because 'Raymondo' is my favourite actor and I have seen everything he has ever been in but I don't think I want to watch it again. Very disturbing scenes and uncomfortable to watch.
Also 'Ladybird Ladybird' the bit were Raymondo beats Chrissy Rock up in the street and the bit near the end when they take away her baby again.
I had to leave the room I found it so upsetting.
The part in the Exorcist that I found most disturbing was when Regan was in hospital having tests and a needle was inserted into her neck which resulted in blood spurting out. I've seen the Exorcist dozens of times and that scene still makes me squirm..
Incidentally, the "spider walk" was only in the so-called "Director's Cut".
I just watched a trailer on You Tube and it looks very disturbing. Can there be anything more sick and disturbing than male on male rape?
I heard good things about another Uwe Boll film called Rampage.
A few nights back I went on You Tube to see a trailer for Rampage and the one I clicked on showed about ten minutes of the film!
Some complete A-hole uploaded about ten minutes and then called it a "trailer". It was the first result so I assumed it would be the official trailer-instead it spoiled what was probably the best scene. Really angry about that.
