Most Disturbing Moment In A Film

Well I just watched Martyrs. Audition has been dethroned; I never thought I'd see the day.

Human Centipede is a Disney film in comparison.

The most disturbing scene I've seen, still sticks with me years later and I have never rewatched the film because I found it so disturbing, was in Paris Trout, when Dennis Hopper rapes Barbara Hershey with a coke bottle.

I'm repeating a few that have been suggested already.

Rape Scenes in general sicken me, (I don't think I could EVER watch Irreversible), but the Hilary Swank rape in Boy's don't cry absolutely destroys me!! I think it's the true story behind it too. Awful

Violence I generally handle ok, but two that stick in my mind are American History X "put your teeth on the kerb"

and Misery where Kathy Bates goes to work on the ankles with the sledgehammer

Emotionally I do get worked up.

Sophies Choice is just horrible, where Meryl Streep has to choose which child will live and which will die. Again as it's based in Auschwitz you can't really tell yourself it's only a film.

I also really get worked up when Renton is trying to give up heroin in Trainspotting and hallucinates the dead baby crawling along the ceiling.

The film was "The Omen" and the lightning rod went through his neck and out through the side of his body, pinning him to the ground. It didn't go through his head.

I concur, there are bits in Lynch movies, and the Twin Peaks series, that creep me out way more than most of the other movies talked about here. I watched Blue Velvet when I was way too young for it, and that was a bad idea.

I literally just finished watching 'A Serbian Film' (thanks for the warnings though).

I'm not sure what to think about it to be honest. I wasn't expecting it to be that well made (the plot was actually really good, especially if you see the underlying message relating to Serbia itself), it definitely has some of the most vile and extreme scenes i've seen in a film (the baby scene being probably the nastiest thing i've seen, and i'm sure it'll haunt me for a while, particularly the crying sounRAB), and the majority of the film made me feel EXTREMELY uncomfortable. I respect the film for making me feel like that though, it's obviously doing something right as a horror film if it's making me have an emotional response.

I'd only say watch this if you've got a very strong stomach for disturbing subject matters. It's not just the gore that makes it disturbing, it's the psychological stuff. If ever there was an adult film that should only be watched by mature viewers that can handle it, this is it.

I can't see it getting released over here at all. It'd be cut so severely that there'd be nothing left.

I just watched the Korean film Oldboy and there's a scene worse than that. Basically he has the guy taped to chair and pulls out his teeth with a claw hammer. Again, you can't see very much apart from the teeth dropping on to the floor, but I was literally squirming in my seat with a cushion in front of my face.

Even worse (and what I arrived in this thread for in the first place) was earlier in the film when the main character ate a live octopus. No special effects, no CGI, it was actually alive. The actor picked it up, stuffed it head first into his mouth and started chewing while the tentacles slithered all over his face. Truly horrendous.

I remember seeing Catch 22 when I was about 12. There is a scene in a damaged plane where the main character is fixing a leg wound on a crew member. Then he notices some blood on the man's shirt, he reaches over and pulls back the shirt and the crewman's intestines spill out.

1. The end scene of "Casino" when all the gangsters start getting murdered to The Animals' "House of the Rising Sun" culminating in the Santoro brothers' baseball bat bludgeoning and and being buried alive in the cornfield.
2. Any scene with "Belial" in it in the "Basket Case" films

I remember a few years ago i watched a film on film 4 extreme, some jap film (the name has escaped me at the moment) anyways the sex scene was pretty graphic including the bit where the girl cuts off the guys penis and eats it, not as bad as the one where all the girl slaves are fored to eat human poo.

baise moi, the rape scene in that was pretty much disturbing

The rape scene from "Eye for an Eye" where Kiefer Sutherland's character rapes and kills a seventeen year old girl. That wasn't pleasant viewing. :(

Also, the scene from "The Shining" where Jack Nicholson's character discovers what is lurking in room 237.

Any of the scenes in 'Sleepers' - particularly the scenes when the evil prison warden (played by Kevin Bacon) raped and brutalized those four young boys - it was quite graphic as well if I remember..

Disturbing doesn't have to be graphic. In Kiss me Deadly from the fifties I found one scene very disturbing. The woman you presume is to be the heroine is screaming off-screen and then the bad guy saunters into view holding a pair of pliers. Imagining what had gone on is far worse than anything they'd probably show in full view these days.

The part in 30 Days Of Night when the woman is walking and shouting for help and the vampires find her and they are all slashing her, and when the little girl is all covered in blood and her face is just blank.
