Listenlisten, nothing more depressing than 19th century church hymns retooled to becoming dirges about the apocalypse and the end of the world.

Most depressing song....

hmmm....

I'd say:

I Know You Are, But What Am I? by Mogwai.

That song bleeRAB depression.

Or

Dead Flag Blues by God Speed You Black Emperor.

Staind??!!?!? Come on, ure not saying staind is actually a musician? And then ure putting him in with APC and Tool????

Dashboard i dont find depressing, i dont really know much of their stuff tho, but they're not bad...

This is such a random list of banRAB that would count as being depressing!

I just want to say, because they're up there, that I definitely don't think Tool are depressing, but actually really positive in many regarRAB.

i'm surprised at the fact that no-one voted for tool yet tho... I listened to My Dying Bride, but it's a bit heavy to be depressing IMO... maybe tool are too, now that i think about it.
I listened to pennywise and actually found it a quite uplifting song... :) unless you really pay attention to the lyrics... The actual music is bright + fast... good enough tho.
The others i havent listened to yet, but i'll get round to em...

Billie Holiday - 'Gloomy Sunday'

Written by an Hungarian composer after he supposedly read his girlfriend's suicide note.
Which read, simply... "gloomy Sunday".
Said to be the cause of numerous suicides, so much so, that the song was reportedly banned from the radio at the time.
He took his own life in his later years.

Oh, those cheery Hungarians.

Sunday is gloomy,
My hours are sluraberless
Dearest the shadows
I live with are nuraberless
Little white flowers
Will never awaken you
Not where the black coaches
Sorrow has taken you
Angels have no thoughts
Of ever returning you
Wouldnt they be angry
If I thought of joining you?

Gloomy sunday

Gloomy is sunday,
With shadows I spend it all
My heart and i
Have decided to end it all
Soon therell be candles
And prayers that are said I know
But let them not weep
Let them know that Im glad to go
Death is no dream
For in death Im caressin you
With the last breath of my soul
Ill be blessin you

Gloomy sunday

Dreaming, I was only dreaming
I wake and I find you asleep
In the deep of my heart here
Darling I hope
That my dream never haunted you
My heart is tellin you
How much I wanted you
Gloomy sunday

No Pink Floyd? The Wall is like the ultimate downer album. And yeah The Cure, Joy Division, The Smiths, those should have been the obvious choices, where are they?

I would have put in Johnny Cash too.

Van Der Graaf Generator are another one that comes to mind. Very gloomy.

Yeah me neither. I love Dave Matthews! So many memories tied to his music.

I say that and yet I don't have any of his albums.. maybe I'll get one eventually. Live at Luther College most definitely. Well back on topic

"Do you still remeraber when we were little? When we were playing in the park and you asked me what happens when you die. I said you forget everything ... everything. 'Even you?' you asked. 'Yes, even me'. You did not want to die. Never forget. The remains of what we used to have were taken away with the softest squeeze. How did I forget? How..."

EDIT: And quite a bit of other Suicidal/Depressive Black Metal. I think that should be voted as the most expository genre name ever
