In New York City, there are no liquor store chains. A liquor store has to be owned by a person who lives in the same neigrabroadorhood as the store, and a person can own only one liquor store.

Lot's of places in MA and CT get around that by opening up liquor stores next door to grocery stors

The logic that they have them separated is that grocery stores are incapable of carding minors and it is more accessible to people under 21 there
