Recently I had a conversation with a Mormon friend and among many other things he stated that the Mormon Church has vast archives of documents most of which the general public and even historians are not allowed to view or examine because they are not "Faith Promoting" (whatever that means).
There are splinter groups of the mainstream Mormon Church that have differing history of the early Mormon Church and according to my friend there are even areas where the Mormon story of the early history is different from what non-Mormons say is the early history of the church.
Where does "Mormon History" the official Mormon story differ from "Mormon Splinter Group History" the story these splinter groups give? Also where does the "Mormon History" differ or even contradict "Official History" meaning what people (non-Mormons) believe.
I'm really confused and would really like an answer.
