More Voltage regulator issues

Was on my 06 Sport 1000 when another rider pulled up at an interesection to ask what was the smoke emminating from beheath my seat and rear cowling. Upon removing the seat/cowling I found that the voltage regulator had fried the wires and had melted clear through the plastic platform on which it is mounted! Warranty expired May 08. Dealer said they have seen such cases and would contact Duc NA to see what they could do. Any advice? To add insult to injury, while I was inspecting bike on side of road someone yelled from a pick-up, "Ya shoulds bought a Harley!" Argh!

Damn that sucks. I would be surprised if DNA does NOT offer replacement without charge. As many of these going out, its got to get someone's attn. best of luck.

Thanks for the encouragement. Additional info: the 06 Sport 1000 of Ducatiano above has 8000 miles and was dealer serviced at 6500 mi (valve adj, systems check, etc.)

I just spoke to a Ducati Mech he told me that he believes, and I don't recall if he said that Ducati has confirmed this or not, anyway he said that he believes that the regulators are burning up because of heat from the exhaust. I asked if it may help to put some sort of additional protective barrier between the regulator and the exhaust and he said that he has done that and that it certainly couldn't hurt. He also said that they may be burning from aftermarket exhausts that may be emitting more heat as a result of their design.
