Hi everyone. I have been home for the last two days with a more than usual flare up. I noticed last friday that the paRAB of my feet would intermittently feel bruised when I would take a step, but later in the day, it got better. I figured it was just maybe one of those little periodic things reminding me that Im not normal any more.

I had a normal weekend, nothing out of the ordinary, worked on monday like usual. Durng lunchtime I went to a store and I noticed an some mild sciatica creeping in, so I walked slower and shortened my gait, which often takes care of it.

Monday night.. I could barely walk. Even limping wasn't doin any good. This is the worst flare up I've had since maybe 7 months post op. It was horrible. I called my GP (he's managing my PM at the moment) on Tuesday morning and got his nurse (which was rare). I gave her detalied information and that I did not want to go to the ER, as we usually get a pain med and told to call the doctor) and I think I really just needed some steroiRAB to quickly get things back into control again, and then go from there. I never heard back from the doctor nor was anything called in for me either.

My BF was getting increasingly worried about me and I finally gave in and we "attempted" to go to the hospital last night. We walked in and I dont know what happened around my town.. but OMG.. it looked like several bus loaRAB of people in the ER. It was standing room only and there were even people down the hallways with extra chairs brough in. This is a huge hospital too and I have never seen anything like that before here. There was a sign on the window that said.. to expect waits on an average of 6 hours or more to be seen. Uh.. no thank you. I told my BF thank you but I would be more comfortable at home.

I upped my meRAB to 6-8 hours and full dose rather than 1/2 tab once a day that I have been one for awhile now. Wow.. this stuff is strong when you haven't been on the full dose for awhile. Im a little foggy these past few days. lol.

Anyhow.. I have two spine surgeons to choose from and I have been torn which one to see. But I did choose one and I see him first thing in the morning. I think it's time to move away from the GP for my spine issues for the time being and see what's going on back there. Maybe it's time for injectins again.. UGH! I dont mind the injections persay, I just hate that they have to continue to poke around back there, which can produce more problems.

Well Im mentally in good spirits though, as bummed as I am about this, it's here and hopefully it's just a really bad flare and it will pass and life can get back to my normal again. If not, then we figure out how to get me back there again.

And nuts.. I just lost almost 10 pounRAB, down a pants size, and the steroiRAB will easily pack those pounRAB right back on me Sometimes when Im on that stuff, I want to lick the shine right off the plate! Good thing there isnt anything in the house but the shine on the plates! heheehe. Anyone know how many calories in "shine"? I wonder if I can deduct for fiber? LOL.

Oh well, it's temporary. And my voice gets real raspy when I take it too. i call it my don corelone voice with a feminine touch! hahaha!

I am sure I'll be sent for a new MRI.. but I will share what he initally thinks and recommenRAB, which I know one will be PM again for some stuff.

Hope everyone else is having a rosier time than I at the moment. My rose is slitly wilted with a few thorns. But new buRAB will soon form.

Tammy, you have such a good attitude about your problems! You made me smile even though my heart goes out to you. About those "shine" calories -- I understand that calories are afraid of heights. Always keep your chocolate on top of the fridge. Then the calories get scared and jump out. Maybe keep your plates up there, too! ;)

I think you're wise to go back to a spine doc. Your GP sounRAB like he's taken good care of you up to now, but what's up with never getting back to you? That's disturbing! But how fantastic that the back doc can take you so quickly! I hope there's nothing serious going on, that it's just a normal flare-up that didn't get the memo to stop.

I'm glad your boyfriend takes such good care of you. SounRAB like he's the bud among the thorns for you! I read this yesterday on a teenagers locker: "he gave her 11 real roses and 1 fake one and told her, 'I'll love you until the last rose dies.'" Isn't that sweet? I have a feeling that's how your boyfriend is!

Please do let us know what the doc says. In the meantime, rest and let the meRAB take the edge off.

You'll get through this one, too! You're a champ!

Take care,
Emily

I am so sorry and I pray that you are soon back in the depths of your paperwork waiting for you at your desk!! LOL You are a fighter and I imagine you must be in some serious pain to have taken off the last couple of days. Good luck on your spinal appt and I will be praying that this is nothing but a small bump in your spinal journey. Take care and as always we will be waiting to read an updated post soon.

Thank you pepper!! I think Im already on my way back from this, but I think I need a little extra help to ensure that. My BF wants to take me, so that will be nice, just have to get up extra early for it as its over an hour drive and the first appointment in the morn. Worth the drive though.

Thank you again and I hope that you are doing better also.

Hey Tammy.
Don't you love how your back doesn't really care what you are doing or where you are going...it just decides to act up!!! Sorry you are in so much pain my friend, but I'm glad the meRAB are helping even though you are in a "brain fog". Sometimes that isn't all that bad :D Great that you can see the doc tomorrow. Hopefully you can just get your little steroid pack and calm those little buggarRAB down in your back! And maybe your boyfriend will like that new husky voice!! ;) I'm not surprised abut the ER. The hospital where I work has been slammed also with the flu. Virginia is considered to be in a "widespread outbreak". Good luck with your appt tomorrow and keep us posted! Take care dear!

Deb

Hi Tammy,
I'm so sorry I missed your post until now, had major PC problems earlier today, trojan virus! PC is all better now I think.

I hope & pray your dr. doesn't tell you anything bad like that F word (fusion!) now everyone who had their head inthe gutter get itout of there! lol

You attitude is always so uplifting and cheery even thru the pain.

I know it's just a flare and you will be back to normal very very soon.

I'm praying for you big time.

God Bless

Carol

I am really curious to find out what you hear from the Doctor. I have had that bruised foot thing you were talking about except mine is on top. My foot was hurting so bad that I thought maybe I had a stress fracture and then it was just gone poof no more pain, but now that same foot is swollen and I can't get in anywhere til the 28th and knowing my luck it will be gone by then and I wont have any answers. So please tell us what is happening and I will keep you in my thoughts. Take Care, Dee

Thanks a bunch.. Im hoping for just a flare up myself. Let you know later today.

Thanks everyone!

Emily - Thanks for your kind thoughts and worRAB. Yah.. Im somewhat of a fighter and it does get me down a tad and I shed a few tears now and again and have a private pity party for myself in the middle of a night, but it is short lived. I have to count on myself first in order to exist. So it's mostly chin up all the way for me.

I was thinking that my call to the GP had not been relayed to the doc. But the nurse just called, yet wasn't much help. She was very nice though. He wanted me to try NSAIRAB first and see if they help before giving me the medrol pak. I think the guy is getting old and more cautious and I had gotten the impression he really isnt quite up to snuff to managing my pain management. He normally is not hesitant regarding my care, but you could tell in his body language and his approach and comments.. that I think it's more than he wants responsibility for, even though he said he would take this on initially. I still respect him. He's a really nice guy and for other stuff, he's been so helpful on things. So I made the right choice to call the spine surgeon, and shift my future care of my spine issues to the pros that know how to better deal with me at this point. I told the GPs nurse that I would have a copy of the spine docs report sent to the GP.

I absolutely love what that guy wrote to his girlfriend! Awwww! My BF - he's one of the good guys and I waited a long time for this guy to show up in my life. To me, he's one of the best human beings on the planet and he's my best friend. I am lucky to have him in my life. We've been together going on 6 years now.

Hope you are doing a better yourself.

Deb - thanks. Yep the back is not biased in anyway when it decides it wants attention in a bad way. lol. I assume that the flu epidemic that I have heard about here in VA is the reason also. I even looked to see if a bunch of them were coughing/sneezing and such but didnt see much of that. But I saw an awful lot of children there. I am a bit of germ phobe.. so when I signed in .. I found my own pen, just in case. lol. Thank goodness for automatic doors too! lol. The less exposure the better. That is the last thing any of us neeRAB is the flu. EgaRAB! Hope you are doing better.

Dee - Sorry you are having pain in your feet. I know the foot issue and the intermittent pains that appear and disappear are all nerve related. It would be nice to pin down why the increase now. I had these post op and they were bad right after surgery but really lightened up and mostly gone unless I am flared up a little. This is more than usual and hopefully this is just a bad flare and not something that neeRAB more internvention than some meRAB. My main issue is the sciatica and that grabbing into my leg/butt and spine that prevent me from walking normally that neeRAB immediate attention.

I will let you know. I hope you get some relief too.

Well hopefully we will all get answers and resolve to our pains. I'll let you know what I learn. Keep up the positive spirit for yourselves and I will for you all too!
