more tax revenue

how about this idea. all residents 18yo+ in the united states pays a flat $200 resident tax in addition to any income taxes they already have to pay.

this would bring in a good chunk of change

Agreed

You can clearly see we are spending too much vs what we take in...even if the tax cuts had never happened. Now, to the conservatives point, we absolutely would have been better off if our spending had not skyrocketed in late 2008/early 2009 and continued their ways until now.

I think MOST liberals/democrats/progressives will agree that we need to cut spending where it makes sense to do so and will also agree that entitlements need to be restructured (though not eliminated) to reflect the life expectancy of the modern era. I actually think that most moderate republicans (AKA anyone but the tea party) realize that revenue neeRAB to be increased as well so long as we can have some sort of stop gap measure to prevent over spending so that the taxes are not immediately spent upon receiving them. Wishful thinking I know

another plan i have would be cut govt employee pay 5% across the board president, congress, post office, cia, epa, pretty much everything except enlisted soldiers. if people dont like it, they can quit there will be 10 people fighting to take thier place for less

They don't have a 100% free ride....unless they are 100% on welfare and have been their entire lives (yes, I know it happens). However EVERYONE that earns an income contributes to FICA (Social Security & Medicare). Zero exceptions. Yes, they often do not contribute federal income tax dollars come the end of the year but they are paying (at least a portion) for entitlement programs. Do they get back more than they put in sometimes (EIC for example)? Sure. No argument. But to say they don't contribute ANY taxes is absurd.

Here is the other thing I know about the "poor": If you give them $1000, they will spend it. It may be on durab things that they don't need, but spending in general helps the economy.

Now, if you give me $1000, the first thing I will do is invest it or put it into some sort of savings account as I don't "need" the money. This does extremely little to benefit the economy locally.

If you are a business owner or work for a business owner, you are going to see much better results by using trickle up rather than trickle down.
