I asked this question before, but I had only one response, so I think I need some more help with this story. I don't know if I should continue this story or get rid of it.

The story is about a man named Gilbert who is an alcoholic and always depressed, despite being wealthy and a famous author. He is haunted by the death of his girlfriend. He decides to travel around the world and write a book about his life. There are more chapters about a place called the Willows and the people who are affected by a haunted house in the town. Later the reader discovers that Gilbert and this house are connected by an incident that happened years before as he is about two hundred years old. He is interested in the mansion and gets reports about the place and the ghost who lives inside of it.

The second half of the book is the story that Gilbert is writing. It starts with a girl named Evangeline (Eva) and her life in a mansion called Deveraux in Louisiana in the 1890's. She wants to go to college, but her mother wants her to be a socialite. So, Eva is taught how to run a house, there she learns her true family history that is whispered by the servants she writes the story in lurid detail in her journal.Secretly, Eva writes stories and sends them to newspapers. She is engaged to a man she hates named Steven, her family pressured her to marry this wealthy man. She falls in love with Gilbert, who is her sister's tutor. They plan to run off after a scandel occurs between Eva's sister and Steven. The night that they were to run away together, Gilbert is shot supposeably by Eva' s father (he didn't shoot him,Steven did) Eva sees his body. She thinks he is dead and so slowly she is losing her mind. At last minute, Eva decides to regain her strength, get out of the mansion and start her life but she dies under "mysterious circumstance" (it wasn't suicide). Gilbert is not dead and tooken care of by a old woman. For two weeks, he is nursed and when he comes to, he discovered Eva died. He is heartbroken but he goes to California to start a life. Eva is the ghost of the mansion.

For years, he doesn't get older, in fact he is immortal. He marries a couple of times, builds new personas but still is unhappy. While on his trip, he decides to commit suicide in the mansion where Eva lived.

Now, I was planning on him being discovered by the old woman who is a voodoo woman, who will take him back in time to get Eva. They marry in the present age and Gilbert begins to age. When he dies years later, Eva dies alongside him. Now, there are three endings to this, the reader can make the conclusion that the couple are now ghost in the mansion, they both are in their own afterlife or they just die. It's up the the reader.

I got some help and someone said I should take out the voodoo and let Gilbert commit suicide in the Mansion where he can have an afterlife with Eva.
Should I keep working on this story, please please be kind.
