As a self-proclaimed Bond expert, (ahem)... Moonraker was one of those sea-change films, where they had pushed the formula to far away from the core of a secret agent and turned it into "larks in outer space". Although I enjoyed it at the time, I spent more time groaning at the physical impossibilities of the space travel sequences and the whole multi-shuttle story.
Live and Let Die was superb, Man with the Golden Gun fairly good, and Spy Who Loved me passable. Moonraker was a James Bond comedy.
For Your Eyes Only was a much needed reboot to the franchise after this comic strip guff. Octopussy was so-so... and A View to A Kill dire... time to get a new Bond (oh no, it's Dalton!!)
We had to wait till 1995 and Goldeneye before Bond ever reached those giddy heights once more..
