Haven't seen this special, but I actually kinda like the idea of a Monsters vs. Aliens TV series. If they got decent writers to create solid character-driven storylines and humor to go with the exciting action setpieces, this would be a great series. Susan would be an enormously appealing female protagonist (IMO, she was one of the few things that the movie got absolutely right), and her ongoing friendship with the monsters is perfectly suited for a weekly television series with it's humorous chemistry and potential for character development.
The only thing is that the series shouldn't actually be named "Monsters vs. Aliens: The Series", unless they planned to make the heroes fight aliens every week. Which would get extremely old and, in any case, it's obvious that a TV show would introduce a wide array of weekly adversaries.
