Monster 620 as first bike???

I have to say that I have been lusting after Ducati bikes for years. Their beauty and style are remarkable. I have been riding a Vespa 150 for nearly 6 years as a daily commuter. I have decided to upgrade to a motorcycle. I am no fool.... I KNOW there is a huge difference between a scooter and afull bike. I have been on the receiving end of some snide comments from elitists)
Is the Monster 620 a first time bike? I know that there are smaller bikes
from Japanese makers....but they lack that Ducati style. I believe that a safety course would be in order but I am curious what the
experienced Ducati guys think?

I started on an 03 Monster 620i.e. It was a great bike to learn with, but I sold it and upgraded to an S4R after about 4 months. If the price is right, go for it. I bought my 620 for $4500 and sold it for $4000. $500 for 4 months of riding was worth it for me. I now have a 1098 along with my S4R. The lust for more power is neverending, as well as the modding bug; once it bites it never lets go.

Very nice choice to go with a Monster 620. FYI, Vespa 150Sprint was my first bike in college. It was white with six mirrors and one antenna. My older brother has a P200E. Good luck.

6 years is a long time, especially when commuting daily. You have plenty experience on a motorcycle, and if I were you I would feel comfortable getting the bike that I wanted.

My first street bike was the 1098, but I have been on dirtbikes my whole life, I never had a problem. Just be very careful, ride within your limits and don't take chances. It's all about your confidence and riding smart.

I would say that you can pretty much buy any bike that you want within your budget, you only live once, and if you get the bike you don't want you'll just be thinking about that one special bike until you get it.

BTW, congratulations on picking the right make

Monster 620 is pretty sweet. My fiance bought a new one in 04 as her first bike. She is 5'8", 125. Perfect fit for her. Seat is nice and low with a relaxed riding position. I ride it every once in awhile, it's fun. It sounds sweeeeet too!! As a first bike I think it's a great choice. But, have you seen the new 696?????? Bit more money, but looks tasty and has power to grow into. Sorry, can't put up a pic apparently due to my lack of awesomeness with computers!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, the "Red X" is a SWEET bike, good call!

The small Monster is a great first bike, I wish I would have had that for mine rather than the 750 Kawi I had.
