"Mommy, what's a Trix Rabbit?"

This evening I came into the living room and walked in on the end of a news report that seemed to suggest cereal makers were now dropping the use of animated characters in their ads, and possibly on their boxes as well, due to increased criticism about fatty food targeted at kids.

Since I only caught the end, I can't verify it. Is this really true? Has anyone else heard this?

It is indeed true.
FYI, the video on the left column of that article has some old-school clips of cereal ads.

Although, it's only with Kellogg's cereals for the moment, so the Trix rabbit is safe for the time being. Snap, Crackle, and Pop along with Toucan Sam aren't so lucky.

Hmm, that's strange. The video attached to the arcticle I posted and the tidbit I saw on national news tonight made it seem like Kelloggs was abandoning their characters. Now I'm confused.

If General Mills takes this route, this also means no more Trix rabbit, no more Sonny the Cocoa Bird, no more Count Chocula, no more Frankenberry, no more Boo Berry, no more Lucky the Leprachaun (sp?) and no more Honey bee.

I think a lot of people are kind of overreacting to this news. These characters aren't going anywhere. Kellogg's will just reformulate the cereals to meet the new standards and use their characters to advertise their new healthy standards and to get kids to be active. Toucan Sam will be telling kids to follow his nose to the playground or something like that.

Well, at least it's not a good as the Asian Trix Rabbit. I mean, you'd rather say "Carrots are for you, doc!" If that happens, then "This calls for some celery!"

Boo Berry, Franken Berry and Count Chocula are all now in back alleys on Hollywood and Vine performing favors to get cereal fixes. :crying:

Though I do still see Chocula at some stores, and it only costs 2 bucks to buy. Which I always do.

*sigh* There goes another lingering thread of precious times of my childhood ruined by today's current present. I'll miss you, Trix Rabbit.
