Mold!!!!!!

Right when I think everything is going great and I FINALLY have a place to live (after months of looking) I find out hey there is mold growning in the washroom. And were not talking that little black mold that you sometimes find in the shower, Im talking bright blue mold growing under the linolium in the washroom. When we first started cleaning I was just like man the people who lived here before were pigs! so i never thought anything about the huge stain on the linolium I just figured it was caked on dirt, Then last night when i went to scrub down the washroom I noticed that nothing was even on the surface. So examining the washroom I found that part of the linolium was lifting by the tub and around the toilet! So the thought that omg water has been leaking under this linolium for god knows how long?!? was running through my head. And me being a naturally curious person I ripped up the linolium :S only to find that gross ass mold! So now i dont know what to do. Im hoping when i tell the landlord he will replace it immediatly and not even try to give me the runaround. Oh seriously people this is what the mold looks like..: http://www.hallert.net/kinston/bathroom/bathroom.htm

Mold can be exceptionally toxic. Living in a house with a serious mold problem can often be fatal, or at least require a good deal of medical expense.

Depending on how bad the mold problem really is, the only safe solution may be to condem the house. But I certainly wouldn't accept a run around... or live there until its fixed.

In much of the US, if the landlord fails to act, you can legally with hold your rent from him. You can also break your lease due to unsafe living conditions without any penalty... but it's tough to do. Check your local regulations and see what your options are.

Do you have a lease? If so, I'm sure it says that the landlord is responsible. I'd start with the Health Dept, the Attorney General for your state, and anyone else you can think of, if the landlord gives you any crap and doesn't fix this immediately. You can also put the rent in an escrow account until this is fixed.

I'd also stop tracking it from the bathroom to the rest of the house on your shoes. Mold like this can cause you to become very ill then leave you with lingering health problems.

Oh, you are off to a good start. You took pictures. Document everything. Every conversation you have with your landlord, the Health Dept, the Atty. General, etc. You may never need it, but better to be safe than sorry. Just write it all down in detail with times and dates.

Be sure to wear a mask of some kind around that gunk, or it'll butcher your lungs.

That's pretty nasty, but the strange thing is...reading it and seeing those mold pics kinda made me hungry

Also, if you don't mind me asking, what's the rest of the place like? Better than the bathroom I would hope.

Mold sucks ass. My parents are going to get our problem fixed soon. Well, I hope soon. It's pretty bad. I'll even share pictures! :D

This is my bathroom, where my dad actually cut out part of the ceiling. I think he said it was so that the stuff inside could dry out, because we only got all of this mold after a huge amount of rain. (I live in Washington.)

My brother's room is the worst.

But it's already starting to get into my bedroom, which is right next to the bathroom as well. Excuse the poor paint job in that picture, too.
