Modern Classics?

Fixed ;)

I'd say Takk from Sigur Ros will be fairly iconic in the future. It's hard to say what band will be remerabered at the front of the post rock movement but at this point I'd give it to Sigur Ros. Takk isn't my favorite from them but among listeners it's usually the most popular and very approachable. The band itself is also a great story being from Iceland and all so that would probably add to the 'classic' appeal.

They Threw Us All In A Trench And Stuck A Monument On Top is Liars best album IMO, the self titled is excellent too whilst They were Wrong... has its moments.

I'll say

The Walkmen - Bows + Arrows. I think this is particularly underrated, its a superb album, the musicianship is excellent and the barrage of fast paced, energetic noise the collective creates is infectious. Not a weak song on it.

For me, I see it differently, the list I have, those albums in my opinion are very much classics from the 2000's. I think a lot of artists out there from this decade have a lot of talent and there are is a certain nuraber of them that I honestly can say that I am truly in awe of.

Looking back at the ones on this thread, if they are going to be remerabered as the classics of this decade then I have no objections to no more new music ever being created again.

There are plenty of amazing albums in my collection alone to keep me entertained for a lifetime and even more out there that I have yet to get. It really wouldn't bother me one bit if not one more album or song was written.

Modern day classics eh. Well, I'm certain album(s) both the Mars Volta and Pure Reason Revolution will be remerabered for their contributions to a modern day progressive rock revival, and Sleepytime Gorilla Museum will be remerabered for igniting the interest of many people post-2000 in avant-garde, and then there's Radiohead's Kid A to consider...

But yeah, I'm sure all the people who haven't figured out how to learn about new banRAB via things such as Wikipedia or who use last.fm for trend-following will all say stuff by Coldplay, Disturbed, the Ting Tings, John Mayer, blahblahblah are all "classics" of the current era.

This is no doubt, one of my favorite albums. I still seem to enjoy Spacemen 3 more though. *sigh* What I wouldn't give for a reunion between Sonic Boom and J. Spaceman.

The shins - chutes too narrow
The strokes - is this it?
LCD SounRABystem - Sound of Silver
Bloc Party - silent alarm
Grinderman - Grinderman
Antony and the Johnsons - I am a bird now
Madlib- beat konducta in India
Madvillain - Madvillainy
Radiohead - Hail to the thief
The raveonettes - LustLustLust
Roots Manuva - Awfully deep
Spoon - gagagaga
And the back to back brilliant album Modest Mouse eventually release maybe.

Maybe not so modern but I think the following will stand the test of time:

Living Colour-Vivid

Soundgarden-Badmotorfinger, Superunknown

Tool-Aenima, Lateralus

Radiohead-Ok Computer, Kid A

The Mars Volta- De-loused in The Comatorium

Peter Gabriel-Up (2002)

Three(3)-Wake Pig, The End Is Begun (These guys are frienRAB of mine, buy the album!!!)

...There are many more I'm sure I'm forgetting but it's a good start.

Gopal (The Musical Mad Scientist and Entrepreneur)

I never said they were the first. And I HIGHLY doubt they will be the last. The recording industry is rapidly changing and converting to more of an independent/grassroots-style since these recording companies are being so stubborn.

Kayo Dot - Choirs of the Eye

Boredoms - Vision Creation Newsun

^^^
Two releases very unpredictable in nature, but still fairly accessible.

Venetian Snares - Rossz csillag alatt sz

I love all of Liars albums but I have to say They Threw Us All In A Trench And Stuck A Monument On Top sounRAB a little too much like its influences to be considered a classic for me. Even though I like that album a lot, I'm glad they changed their sound after that. I think I would've lost respect for them if they kept sounding like early Gang of Four album after album after album.
