Modern Aristocratic dramas

Julian Fellowes said in an article I read that other countries would make a modern drama about the aristocracy but not the UK. Does anyone else think that the UK wouldn't watch one that we can only have posh people in period drama ? X

This would be the same Julian Fellowes that wrote and produced (the wonderful) Downton Abbey (about an aristocratic family) that's currently showing on ITV on Sunday night and has just been recomissioned for a second series ?

Cavegirl, I think that Fellows' point was that Downton is period drama, and that no-one makes MODERN dramas about aristocratic families.

I would imagine it's because no one would believe what goes on in them! Besides which there'd be far too many cast members - what with ex-wives (average about 3), wifelets, mistresses, secret gay affairs, wayward daughters, criminal butlers and valets, the chauffeurs - and cocaine/heroin addiction.

Can you image the gossip that would ensure as well?

We'd all be far too confused with the storylines to care anyway

At least it would be more fun than Eastenders. Also more believable than some dramas when the people are meant to have normal jobs but have lots of clothes and huge houses in the middle of London
