Mock The Week - Series 9, BBC2 Thursdays 10pm (Merged)

I think it's always suffered from being a bit too formulaic and contest-centric, nobody cares about the points or the silly game formats just make funny people talk about recent atuff for half an hour innit!

And if all else fails . . . "Wouldn't it be hilarious if Gordon Brown had a rap battle with a ninja? [INSERT RAP IN HILARIOUS VOICE]"

Did anyone else see Frankie Boyle on Jonathon Ross the other week? He said he didn't want to be part of a comedy show where the only gags making it to air were along the lines of "Wouldn't it be funny if you tickled a badger?"

Remind you of anyone . . .

No, but this is still yet another limitation that's being pushed on to comedians.

The only decent episodes of Buzzcocks during the last series were the ones hosted by Rhod Gilbert and Frankie Boyle - because in both episodes they either ripped the p*ss out of the line-up (will this round now have to end under the new "guidelines"?) or took shots at celebrities/musicians and it was funny stuff.

I think it can survive just by introducing new comedians. If they find the right talent they might have a chance. Andy Parsons, Russell Howard and Hugh have been awesome and along with Frankie made the show what it is, but it's time to move on to new comedic talent in my opinion.

I got the feeling he was a bit lazy with his stuff. It was "I'm from a different country and I'm going to point that out by shouting a lot and that'll win me the stand-up round" and it did.

I get the feeling they've got live DVRAB coming out again and don't want to waste their tour material, which just makes MTW rather pointless if the main guys aren't getting up on stage. If they don't want to do it, then replace them with someone who will. Try out some more new talent. I've seen so many in Manchester that would be perfect.

does anyone actually LIKE Milton Jones?? I think his one-liners can be ok, and for a format like MTW it kinda fits, but if I turned up to see something like Live At The Apollo or Michael McIntyre's Comedy RoaRABhow when he was on, I'd be VERY disappointed

What happened to the days when there would always be amazing guests every week? It seems like they're really struggling now. Bring back McIntyre, Mitchell etc. I've always thought Sean Lock would be pretty good on this show.

I like them. Not everyone gets Addison's style of humour. He did "Lab Rats", which had a woman scientist who had invented rice (with a process which involved some spaghetti and a pair of scissors). I thought that was brilliant: that she was creative enough to come up with a new kind of food, while being stupid enough not to know about real rice. That show seemed to get a better response as it continued, which I think was due to the audience getting used to that style of humour.

Yes, I pointed out at the time how much RK looked surprised. It's not the normal thing he comes out with (I can't remember the specific joke), hence that's why they have scriptwriters... The look on his face confirmed it.

It's in nobody's interest to spring too much on the comedians to make them look uncomfortable. It's not a real competition like the Commonwealth Games (*cough*). They damn well should give them some help. Apart from that, they'll have been watching the news all week and have most of their material prepared before the day.

Recorded on Tuesday, which seemed daft anyway given that it doesn't go out until Thursday. So much can happen and not all of the budget info had really come out on Tuesday as on Wednesday the news were looking at things that didn't come out during Osborne's speech - I remember there was a lot of discussion about where's the money going to come from for that ridiculous "run your own school" scheme. Besides - The News Quiz had covered that better anyway as they started dividing up other areas of government institutions between themselves.

wAs ok still misses frankie, the attractive unfunny woman looked bored throughout and her joke about Scotland bombed superbly badly. Russell his usual funny self the adebayor joke brilliant, andy ok has improved a lot, hugh again was his usual funny self, chris Addison was ok nothing special, liked Milton's joke about tv in the fridge being cool and he was generally ok but don't think I could take him every week and dara was good.
