Mock The Week - Series 9, BBC2 Thursdays 10pm (Merged)

She is the only one I can recall being booed for a joke on MTW. Probably the worst one they've ever had.

Jack Whitehall....pass. Enjoyed everyone else though for this episode.

Really excited about the new series, hopefully they'll have found their feet a bit sans Frankie now. :)

A friend of a friend has heard that Milton Jones is replacing Frankie, on a permanent basis; anyone know if that's true? It should be Ed Byrne to be fair, he's had something like 12 appearances (possibly joint first with David Mitchell, I'm not sure..), so it should be him IMO. :D

8 Out of 10 Cats is dire these days. Sean Lock is good, as is the occasional guest, but Jason Blandford is as funny as a dose of the clap and after the World Cup Special Paddy McGuinness tweeted something like, "Now I know why I don't go on that show very often - because the guy who edits it is a tw*t" and he put the asterisk in too. I saw the show after I read that and he barely got a look in whereas there was tons of Manford's crap. I saw the trailers for his live show and if that's comedy then I've got a 12-inch cock.

(Don't worry ladies, it's only 11.5 inches ;) )

One of the worst episodes of Mock the Week I've witnessed.

There were some highlights. Andy Parsons is for my money the underrated panellist and has only gotten better over the years, and there were some crackers in the Scenes We'd Like to See round from Hugh especially, and a few from Russell and Andy.

Now, the bad. Single handedly the worst guests ever, in my opinion. Jack Whitehall is probably my least favourite panel show member on any panel show bar Jamelia. He is not original, doesn't have strong material and rarely raises a smile from me, I cringe everytime I read he's going to be on something I'd like to watch. I really, really want to like him but just can't. Jarred Christmas I've never found funny on anything I've seen him on, albeit not a lot. He didn't impress me, didn't add very much at all. Nik Rabinowitz was a new one for me, and the worst of the lot, perhaps he was out of his depth, I don't know. He was loud and unfunny, not to mention borderline racist.

The thing that's beginning to annoy me is Dara laughing at the jokes that are just quite poor, it seems like an incredibly forced laugh, but I can understand why he does it.

Mock the Week really used to be unmissable TV. I'm not on the whole Frankie is God campaign, and while it was inevitable that he would be a huge loss, it doesn't account for the turgid mediocre pish that this episode was.

For my two cents on improving the show:

  • A permanent panellist on Hugh's team would be very welcome. People have mentioned David Mitchell or Ed Byrne, I'm all for that or someone else.
  • Have more input from Hugh throughout the show, he only seems to come alive in the last round.
  • Have Dara tall more jokes at the end of the round, 8 Out of 10 Cats style, he's a funny bloke.
  • It seems to be going this way, but don't make Russell Howard the star of the show. He worked perfectly as the kind of child like opposite of Frankie, but he's been a lot more irritating over time.
  • Give more screen time to Andy Parsons. That's my opinion, I know the opinion on him is divided, but I'd say he has the most consistent material on the show.

Ed Byrne has the most appearances out of the other guests

Milton Jones is a one liner comedian. Similar to Stewart Francis. You could say the same about Jimmy Carr and Frankie Boyle but they can also ad-lib and string out a joke or anecdote.

I haven't heard of a new regular guest. I think this series is going the same as the last with two guests on Hugh's team.

Talking about Byrne as a regular teammate, he would alctually be a decent regular captain. Ditch Andy and Russell or alternate between the two.

I don't know if this question has been asked before but do the panelists get to see the questions beforehand so they can think of funny responses or is it really off the top of their heaRAB?

I've only just started watching this programme and I do think that some of the responses are so funny that they must have spent some time thinking about them beforehand. But then I could be doing them a massive disservice.

What was that joke?

I realise that she comes across as very stereotypical but so do some of the others.

There have been worse guests and worse jokes.
I recall that both Yashere and Amos have played the race card.
Not sure which is worse. Yashere for bascially saying "is it cos I is black" or Amos for saying he's going to play the "race card".

Wow. I thought the show would return next week. I've just found out Russell is leaving MTW.

Ed Byrne, David Mitchell, and Milton Jones should be considered for any permanent seat. Why oh why is Chris Addison coming back? He's not funny at all and is filled with funny movements and not funny jokes.

I think it goes further. The panelists all have notes so they have probably seen the questions and answers before the show to give them time to write some jokes/notes but more than that I suspect they have a list of topics for the standup round and ask the comedians what topic they want, or when they are booking the comedian they ask what topics would be favourable.
