Mobile users in N.E. US (Sandy storm related); Are you sure you want to charge up at emergency stations?

This is not a question, but more a warning>>>>
As if you don't have enough to worry about, you should be aware potential trouble.

Free charging stations are springing up which can be helpful for your piece of mind, but be aware that using a USB source could lead to problems of a security nature which may come back to haunt you later.

See this article about how these USB charging methods can steal your data, or possibly install malware: https://krebsonsecurity.com/2011/08/beware-of-juice-jacking/

And another instance of deliberate malicious action: http://voices.washingtonpost.com/securityfix/2008/08/wireless_awareness_dont_be_a_s.html

As best you can, 'lock down' your device's security, and carry your charger with you to avoid USB connections to unknown charging kiosks.

If you don't use mobile devices, make sure to warn your friends & relatives so they can make necessary adjustments.
Good luck in the upcoming days.
I'm leaving this up in case anyone can benefit at a later time.

Note also that this should be an ALL THE TIME strategy, not just emergency conditions.
Crooks and thieves are everywhere and they do not take holiday to accommodate your schedule.
