"Mobile Suit Gundam 00" on Sci Fi's Ani-Monday Series Talkback (Spoilers)

Farewell, Lockon. You were the man. And major props to Alex Zahara, who completely owned the role in this episode when it counted the most.

/salute

For whatever reason, I ended up (re-)watching the dub. Not bad at all. I'm never going to be a "dub guy" per se, but this one is perfectly watchable as far as I'm concerned.

Haro's voice did seem a little annoying and I'm not quite sure about Sergei, Marina, Saji or Graham, in terms of casting as opposed to acting, but there's plenty of time for the VAs to grow into their roles. Everyone else seemed to be decent to good so far.

As for the series itself, I'd say it is one of the better AU series and definitely worth a try. The show takes its time to really get going, which may require patience but it's also a positive in terms of world building. When it does, things get fairly exciting, with a couple of nice twists to the usual Gundam formula even if still within the rough limits of what experienced fans of the franchise have come to expect.

There are plenty of remaining similarities to other previous shows, yes, but overall, the first season of 00 manages to be particularly well executed in its own right. Even if I'm not the biggest 00 fan around, by any means, I sincerely like it and hope dub watchers will also find it entertaining.

Stupid Sci-Fi, cutting off the epilogue like that. Now the second season isn't going to make any sense to people who never watch the series before!

Last week, Celestial Being's activities were disrupted when a mysterious mental conflict between Gundam Meister Alleujah Haptism and Human Reform League pilot Soma Peries led to the awakening of "Halleujah," Alleujah's second and much more vicious personality. This phenomenon caused Soma to fly into a hysterical panic, damaging a nearby space station and putting many civilians in danger of falling to Earth. Fortunately, an unlikely cooperation between Alleujah's Gundam Kyrios, HRL officer Sergei Smirnov, and a specially equipped Gundam Dynames were able to stop the descent. However Dynames' capacity to even strike orbital targets from the Earth was revealed as a result, and Alleujah's actions were disapproved of by Wang Liu Mi and Gundam Meister Tieria Erde.

Though Alleujah was confined as punishment for abandoning his mission and Tieria wanted him unassigned from piloting, all four Gundam Meisters were soon mobilized for a new mission: an intervention against a military exercise between the army of the AEU and the individual forces of the Republic of Moralia. During this operation the Gundam Exia's full "Seven Sword" arsenal is deployed, and the battle goes favorably for Celestial Being. However, Setsuna now encounters a fearsome new opponent from his dark past: the mercenary Ali Al Saachez.

Today's episodes:

11 PM: Episode 7 - "Unrepayable Soul"
11:30 PM: Episode 8 - "Indiscriminate Retaliation"

Post spoilers, and Tieria Erde will declare you unfit.

This week brings up a timely issue, and there's a certain scene in episode 8 that I'll be very interested to see dubbed.

Then this "Gabe" person is doing one heckuva Matt Hill impression.

I can't stand voices like that, when the character sounRAB like he has a stuffy nose. Unless he's supposed to be stuffed up, of course. Bleh.

This is admittedly disappointing.

Season two is certainly going to begin with a little less closure and with more questions than it should, in the eyes of U.S. viewers, but I think the material is good enough to stand on its own merits even with that handicap. After a few episodes things should be back on track, despite this sloppy move on Sci-Fi's part.

Yeah, another reason it avoiRAB Wing analogies. It's not nearly as talkative as that series. Far better paced than Seed too.

On another note, on the good side of the dub, does anyone else love Tieria's dub voice? To me, you can't help but dislike the character.

Wow. They cut out about 20 seconRAB from the fight.

Nena and Johann dock, getting ready to fire, but Virtue interrupts it, then it leaRAB into the Nadleeh part.

Thanks for making the situation worse, dude.

Oddly, none of the civilians are screaming and panicing. You think they take a chance to loot the stores and live out their lives to the fullest in their last moments.

Hal, you're a true angel

Is it me, or is Sergei now channeling Col. O'neil?

Take that ThunderbirRAB!

The Armed Intervention continues tonight. The Gundam Meisters have invaded Moralia and seem to be having ease with the Moralian Army and a few of their AEU allies, but one showdown has brought back visions from the past. That showdown is Setsuna vs. Ali Al-Saachez, the very man who taught Setsuna how to be a warrior. How will the Gundam Meisters deal with this development, and what will happen when terrorists groups start attacking the Gundam Meisters ideals? We'll find out in a few hours with an all new hour of Gundam 00.
