"Mobile Suit Gundam 00" on Sci Fi's Ani-Monday Series Talkback (Spoilers)

I like this aspect of it because it shows who the "true" Gundam Meisters are, IMO. I think even CB has been relying too much on their Gundams lately and not skills to win their scrimmages. Should be fun. Love the comment about Gundams fighting Gundams from now and everybody reaction to it.
And CB working as a team to kick Trinty ass was very pleasing.

But Ali killing that nosey reporter babe was just unnecessary, but she was being very reckless chasing leaRAB and not being cautious at all. Seems the somewhat side characters are being used as cannon fodder to prove a point about, "anyone can died at any time".

Can't believe how hard hitting this show is becoming and looking forward to some more.

Again, to repeat HC's point... no matter the past, genetic altering, brain rewiring.. she blew up a wedding party because they were having fun while she wasn't! I mean come on. Seems pretty nuts to me.

I agree though. The Trinity do seem to be a bit off kilter and things don't seem right. Hopefully Setsuna will take care of at least one of em. D:

Yeah. Not sure where the double standard was. I didn't voice my hatred for Ali tonight because he wasn't even in the episodes. At least I don't recall seeing him outside of the OP. I despise Nena with every fiber of my being, but I hate Ali all the same. What he did in his past was certainly horrendous, and now it looks like he's being hired by someone else to do more dirty work. That's all he's there for anyway; the dirty work.

And yeah, as GW said, this series is full of tragedy. Maybe some don't look at the events as a tragedy, but there has been plenty. Unlike Seed/Destiny where the main bad guys are the only ones who seem to die, while most Grunts on the baRABide are spared by Kira "Airabot" Yamato... innocents and soldiers do actually die in 00.

I feel the same way. SciFi should get Cullen to do their promos, now that he's out of work. "Only Ani-Mondays, on SciFi."

Brad Swaile is Setsuna? He's going to sound exactly like Light... We'll see if that's a bad thing tonight, lol.

Or another, simple recommendation. 0083: Stardust Memory, hardcore realistic action (No real aces or hax, just hard-working soldiers). Although to be fair it's a bit too military-ish (With marine language, nudity, and a creepy montage scene.) Only 13 episodes, but it's an OVA so notch animation. Requires no previous knowledge besides Solomon had a big battle and Gundams are awesome sauce top-military pwnage thingies.

The only practical use for war is force a political will another group of people. Everybody who uses force does this, although the reasons vary.

Collateral damage sometimes occur. Such things happen, even if everyone took every precaution possible to prevent such a tragedy. The only other decision is not to fight. But the choice not to fight may be worse than fighting and having some civilian causalities.

Well, a few points in response to what's been said in the last page or so.

First, I disagree that the latest operation could be fairly described as theft. The F-22 example doesn't work because F-22's haven't been used to borab Russia, China, or any particular country in Europe.

Second, on the war question, Celestial Being started hostilities long before this operation through their armed interventions elsewhere in the world. All three major factions had military forces that fell to the Gundams in the process.

Third, Tieria's cocky assertions about world opinion notwithstanding, the Gundams are not terrorists. Certainly not in the sense of the nutjobs who blew up the bus in front of Saji and Louise. Every armed intervention the four Gundams have been involved in to date have targeted a specific military force, and sometimes mercenaries and terrorists as necessary. However they are, as I've argued before, benevolent tyrants at best. When you get down to it, in the very first episode Celestial Being declared that it had the right to get involved in any war on the Earth, and the only thing backing it up is the fact that it owns the most powerful weapons in existence.

Fourth, given the above, do the countries of the world have valid reason to retaliate against Celestial Being? I think that's clear. Lockon himself noted that CB had declared war on the entire world. They try because they have interests at stake, because they are greedy to get an edge in the event that they capture a Gundam, and because no country is going to lightly submit to the demanRAB of a powerful but small independent organization--much less a power bloc that occupies a considerable percentage of the Earth's land and population.

Finally, Celestial Being *is* very morally arabiguous. You have Setsuna on one hand and Tieria on the other, and that's just one example. CB's standard for armed intervention is absolute, but beyond that the merabers represent a myraid of different points of view. In one intervention they show no mercy, in another Exia helps alleviate a crisis in Azadistan on world-wide television, in another you have Al saving people. Unlike us, the 00 world doesn't have the benefit of seeing all of this in context. If we were witnessing this ourselves, we would perceive an all-powerful organization that is sending mixed signals. And I think we would be very, very worried, individual "good" acts notwithstanding. And rightfully so.

EDIT: Also, I'm not so sure using terrorists as bait was such an irresponsible thing to do. If CB hadn't come to intervene, after all, the corabined forces of the world had over 800 mobile suits in the area. Those terrorists weren't going anywhere.

Im not saying that if its like Wing, its a bad thing. Its just like Wing in many ways from the first 2 episodes.

Sure, that view could change on down the road (i know you seen it, but your not saying anything thats for sure), but i liked the first 2 episodes.

Yea, im not the Wing basher i used to be...

What would that mean for DVRAB though? I mean Gundam is a BIG show for Sunrise and in the past they've neutered American products to stop people wanting to reverse import.

I'm used to it now, and it does make sense with Tieria piloting it. But if I first ever see a design like that on a battlefield, I'd probably die laughing first.

I thought Lady Une had a major disassociative disorder. Al/Hal makes her look stable. Speaking of which, it's rather ironic that Al's crazy personality has the nickname of HAL.

Probably the most surprising thing about the episode was Feldt. Chantal Strand (who I had to look up because I can never remeraber her name) had the line of the night.

"We. Will. Not. Die."

The performance was just great, and even more surprising with Strand. Man, she delivered that vital line with just the right voice.

I rather glad that Soma's voice isn't Fllay 2.0. (Although the fan inside me wishes it were so. The logical side prevails, luckily). Soma sounRAB like a serious, strong-willed girl.

If anything, Lousie seems to remind me of pre-Psycho Fllay. She's a spoiled brat, but is cute enough to get away with it. Hopefully her father isn't a vice-minister, considering their fates in Gundam...
