"Mobile Suit Gundam 00" on Sci Fi's Ani-Monday Series Talkback (Spoilers)

It is? Then why didn't they say, "Venezuela"? They didn't change any names in the last two episodes. Why is Venezuela a special case?

So far, we've seen the Sinhalese/Tamil war, the Northern Ireland troubles, and now Taribia(Venezuela). Is that the pattern that MSG00 will follow? Every episode will focus on one current international crisis? Actually, I'm surprised that this show hasn't inspired any political flaming, what with its focus on real issues.

Hmm, if they ARE doing one crisis per ep, does that mean they will soon have an ep about Israel and Palestine? Hoo, boy, the forum posts are going to be fun if that's the case...

And about Northern Ireland. I thought the Troubles pretty much ended a few years ago. The show then seemed outdated by claiming that the NI fighting is still going on.

Does this show remind anyone else of the movie, "Master of the World"? That was the movie based on a couple of Jules Verne books with Vincent Price as a mad inventor who was using an advanced tech airship to try to stop all war.

A few regions are renamed in 00 to show how things have changed between now and 2307. Usually they'll reference this by having dialogue like "CB are attacking such and such a place" "The former ____, eh?". I think it's kind of fair. Regions change name sometimes and our world doesn't have the three power blocks that 00 has.

As for Northern Ireland- perhaps a smidge outdated, but there's nothing to say that tensions couldn't flare up again. I think that's one of the interesting questions being raised. Despite what some other Gundam shows say, war isn't something we can just choose to leave in the past. It breaks out because of key factors and the people involved feel it's their best option.

Double Standard?

Could the hate for Nena be really be from that a girl is commiting these horrible acts, and not a man? People let Ali pass with it. In fact, considering his personaility, his acts of terror and violence seem to be expected of his sex.

But then Nena does it, there seems to be a major outcry over it. Is it because as a girl, we expect Nena to be incappable of such an act? Or is it that we expect Nena to be more like the other girls of the series: passive and in a supporting role?

This could make for an interesting gender roles discussion.

So this episode marks the point in which some jokes become tactless?

I don't think every Gundam even neeRAB a masked man. Especially with the more realistic setting of 00, a masked man would conflict. I mean, the shows have got increasingly silly at justifying it so if 00 stays maskless so much the better. Gives us characters, not cliches.

If they didn't cut it out, Lichty would have explained that he got hurt in the same attack that killed his parents, hence the cybernetic implants.

One of the things that I liked about the cut scene was that Chris realized that Lichty was a nice guy afterall and should have paid attention to him more. Damn time edits

Well... Setsuna and Saji finally have something in common now... erm...

Hmm, now that the military got their hanRAB on the same engines that the Gundams do, it seems like the battles are gonna be based more on actual skill than just having a machine that's stronger than the other.

Not too keen on the whole "every single thing that has happened was planned, whether they know it or not" part of the plot that's been implied, though.

There is that, and also even though this is our world 300 years from now it's also an alternate reality of sorts. Our 20th century history doesn't necessarily have to be 100% true for Gundam 00's A.D. timeline.

Don't worry, the citizens have no idea their tax dollars are been wasted on a robbery attempt.

That's right, robbery. Gundam-jacking is only a military act if you declared war, but only HRL declared war on CB. Union and AEU are both not at war with CB, so their participation in the military action is an act of highway robbery. Hence they are too erabarassed to admit this is what they are doing, especially since they are allowing a terrorist plot to happen as bait.

You know how the F-22 Raptors are the most advanced fighters in the world, right? How would USA feel if Europe, China and Russia ganged up in a joint operation to steal a Raptor?

Ah Gundam on TV. How I miss you.
Gotta say the first two episodes were pretty entertaining. Love the voices of the Gundam Meisters(even Allelujah). The Gundam themselves looks well design. So far I am getting a Gundam Wing vibe from this series and that a good thing. Can't wait till next week.

Last week, the intentions of the enigmatic organization known as Celestial Being were declared to the world. No matter the reason, when war is waged, they will intervene with overwhelming force. As promised, they have begun armed interventions throughout the world using four highly advanced Gundam mobile suits: The Gundam Exia piloted by Setsuna F. Seiei, the Gundam Dynames piloted by Lockon Stratos, the Gundam Kyrios piloted by Alleujah Haptism, and the Gundam Virtue piloted by Tieria Erde.

How will the three superpowers of the world respond to Celestial Being's actions? Tonight, two more episodes of Gundam 00 are on tap for Ani-Monday.

11 PM: Episode 3 - "The Changing World"
11:30 PM: Episode 4 - "Foreign Negotiations"

Post spoilers, and Graham Aker's coming for you in his Flag.
