My husband and I went to the dealership today to purchase a car because my old car broke down a week ago. We decided on a 2007 Chevy Impala w/ 43,000 miles. The car had a small chip in the windshield and a small crack in the taillight which the sales rep said would be repaired when they took the car in the shop to be detailed.
We had to wait a while to get our paperwork done, but when they pulled the car out for us to drive it home, I immediately noticed something was different. They wound up detailing and selling us the wrong car, though it was nearly identical to the car we originally looked at - same year, make, model, and color. The sales rep seemed astonished at first, but after reviewing his paperwork he said that this car was more expensive model than the car we were originally looking at - and we got it for a steal. He said "I won't say anything if you won't". Figuring I had made out like a bandit, I drove off with my new car.
Upon arriving home I realized that the car I got, although pricier at the dealer was a less expensive model as per KBB - The Impala LS instead of the LT, which means it didn't come with some of the other features that the other car had such as ABS, Alloy wheels, Traction Control, and MP3 hook-up. The LS also has 2,000 more miles which isn't a huge deal but still noteworthy.
The thing is, I like the interior design of the LS more than I like that of the LT, but the LT is the more expensive model. I just find it very strange that the LS would be $1500 more expensive at the dealer than the LT even though it has more mileage and less features. I'm really not sure if I should keep the LS or go back and get the LT.
What's even stranger is that supposedly the sales rep told the mechanic to fix the taillight and the windshield, but the LS obviously wouldn't have had these identical problems which makes me suspicious... Was this a set up? What should I do?
